My $100 like OEM fit NAVIGATION setup

It has an A/V in, so it will display but the touchscreen wouldn't work. It runs Windows CE so you could boot into that, but its stripped down. The processor is only 333MHz (if I remember correctly) and it only has 64MB of RAM, so it wouldn't be much of a carputer.

The monitor will definitely not work for a carputer. I mean only as a screen yes, but the touchscreen functions won't be available as Burner stated its A/V not USB. Also you would need a A/V to VGA converter box and as you know many carpc guys will tell you the video quality will suck!
The plenio has a weird resolution which is not good for such high graphic of a VGA.
I originally started as a Carpc project. I had everything ready cheap laptop, usb gps antenna, power supply and all the wiring. All i needed was a xenarc or lilliput 7" VGA monitor but I just couldn't justify the price of the damn thing.
The ratio of failure and cost and the cheap quality was just not worth the hassle. I can buy a 24"+ LCD monitor for the same price!

Wow, this thread got big quick...awesome, i haven't read up on the entire thing since i last came on here,
But has anyone considered using the 03 or 04 center console that was from an OEM nav equipped car. (motorized)
I mean, if you purchased (online or junkyard) the oem center console from a 350z 03-04 that had navigation then you can wire the BUTTON in the center of the cubby door to automatically open - retract back and just like the oem nav, the controler would power the oem nav to "turn on" you can use the same to turn on this nav.
just follow the wire diagrams on the FSM and wire that hoe bag up..
just a thought..

OK, all finished and installed. Software is pretty good, I would say not as accurate as Garming, ex: when coming to a turn it seems to be about 10-20 feet behind and my address for my street doesn't show up correctly. Still have to play with it more. Here are some pics:
Here is my switch that I molding into the dummy switch in the center console, so I have the ability to turn it off when not in use.
You can run the antenna down through the vent, took a fews times to figure out, but I think this is the cleanest way to do it.
This is how I routed the power and antenna
My car is an 03, so I tapped into the power in the back, forget heat shrink, so I had to use elec. tape. I know, its bush league.
These are the wires for my switch, I used quick disconnects on them, two of the wires are for power and one of the wires is the ground for the led

Awesome. Thanks for the pics. The pictures you guys posted should help the rest of us tremendously when it's time for us to do it.
Any other pictures?

So far this software is pretty kick ***, the only problem that I am having is the time zone keeps resetting itself, is anyone else having this problem?
So far:
PRO:
3d software and lane assistance.
At night the screen will automatically dim itself
Con:
time zone keeps resetting itself
it seems to be about 20 feet off in distance

Yea I had the time issue, but when i selected the auto time zone adjustment, it gets it right based on your gps location, just takes a few seconds to update when you first open it up.
I have had a few times where the gps just wont get a lock on any satellites, or once it was completely lost, and it seemed like the gps was out of sync by 90 degrees... A couple of glitches, but overall it works very good. I am impressed with the detail and color coded backgrounds, red for hospitals, blue rivers, even recreational trails are marked and labeled.

Also, in my OCN8 folder, I have other things in there that weren't in the pdf file's step #5 ("tts_loq", "LoqEnglish6.9.dll", "LoqGerman6.5.dll", "loqmsx.dll", "LoqTTS6.dll", and "LoqTTS6_util.dll"). I don't seem to have Lang_English-us.zip there either, but I did find that file in \content\lang. So, do I follow the pdf file exactly and delete the extra files I have and add the English file to the root?

In the pdf file step #6, it talks about the "content" folder. Am I correct in assuming that in each of the 6 folders (building, lang, map, poi, speedcam, and voice) I only need the file with the necessary state and not every single file? I ask because I see that the entire OCN8 folder is 1.4GB as I obtained it and the memory card only has a 1GB capacity.

Good job MW9, you really took apart your center console, my install took 10 min!
i plan to add a switch as well, autozone had these OEM like neat looking round switches.

I have the same issue with the time zone...Even set at automatic, it sometimes takes it 20-30 minutes to switch to the correct time.
I haven't experienced any antenna issues, it seems dead on and the signal is picked up almost instantly when I turn the car on.
Why install a switch? The main menu of the plenio has an option to turn off the screen, no need for a switch!

The switch is for start up too, so I don't have to keep turning it off. I had to run a power wire that way anyways, so wasn't a big deal to add the switch

98% of the time when the car starts up and OCN8 is started I already have full signal on my GPS antenna. Could this be by location? NYC just has more satellites near by (I HAVE NO CLUE)?
I have never noticed the time zone change, will keep an eye out next time...
