Default What component speakers?

Well I have my door speakers off for another project and think I am going to bite the bullet and get some components while the door panels are off.

I need suggestions as to what are some of the best? I am already hesitant on upgrading speakers as im not much into sound at this point of the build (rather spend money elsewhere.) But if i can get some components that really wow me with loudness and sound quality I think i wont be so upset about not getting my 4.08 gears or 06+ headlights as soon as I would lol

I like Focals. Of course, there are many great component speakers.

An external amp will make a big difference. You should not install quality speakers unless you add an external amp.

If your plan is to use the Pioneer's built-in amp, you are better-off with cheap speakers.

^^ And... you would need a decent external amp (more $$) to drive these speakers.

I thought you said the best??? lol, If you want really good stuff, you gotta pay to play....personally loved my Zapco CK-16.2's, but here is a good deal on some speakers.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...PPI+356CS.html

I know people will say PPI used to be good and they got bought out, but these, from what I have heard, are rebadged a/d/s/ components from back in the day, which was a very well known and good company. If I was on a budget for components, I'd get 'em.

Here's my review on MB Quarts in your price range:

The component upgrade together with an amp really makes a difference IMHO.

Do they work OK with the built-in amp in the H/U, or do they need more power you get with an external amp? (Focals definitely need an external amp)

depends on the model. I am running ES-620's in my Titan off of a sundown amp and they are beautiful.

Right now I am just running 2 pair's of CL-61A's off my Alpine W205 HU in my WRX and they sound very good. These were very inexpensive also. (Just running these while I plan out what I am going to do with the car once I get back from Africa (cough, cough Morel)

^^ Alpine H/U’s (and their built-in amps) are very good at driving speakers that do not require a lot of power for good sound.

You should give us a report on your trip to Africa when you get back. I’m planning a trip as well, and am interested in your experiences.

Those are DEFINITELY baller! LOL! But they sound amazing! I gotta check my finances and see if I can be that baller . I'd not heard of Focal until I stopped in an audio shop the other day. Wow! Very impressive!

I'd pass on the CDT's...tweeters are said to be harsh, midbass is poo if you ask me...no matter what components you go with, if you don't put an amp on them, you're not getting the full potential. There are a couple sets of components that I think could do good on just a HU from what I heard...

One are the Polk's I think the SR6500's and the other is the Pioner 720PRS. If you have about 300-350 bucks you can pick up a set of Hertz Hi-Energy components from an authorized dealer. I like those speakers and they are priced very well...Hertz, if you haven't heard, is made by Elettromedia, which also makes Audison.

I really think the PPI's are a great deal for $140 and it's very hard to find a better deal than that. There is the Phoenix Gold RSD's, the real rave on those is the midbass. Tweeters I heard are decent, but for about $100, maybe less and that's brand new, it's a pretty good deal.

Kicker has some good components, forget the model exactly, but I generally dislike Kicker for their speakers (subs particularly), however, their components are MUCH better.

As for Focal, I've owned a few of their products, well made, but I'm not a fan of the 165v3's...good midbass response, but a little on the muddy side, tweeter doesn't do a good job, just my .02. If you wanna talk about baller, I'd consider the Focal Utopia Be's, Zapco CK-16.2's, ummm, Brax, Alpine F1 Status, Alpine Type X Euro version....and there's quite a bit of others.

Oh yeah, I heard the DLS UP6 is pretty good. I had the Iridiums, I was pleased with them, and I heard them properly tuned in a setup and they were amazing. If you want any DLS or Seas products, let me know. I know one of the authorized dealers from www.mobilesq.com (owned by 2 people, and they're the only authorized online dealers).

I was looking at the PPI's for my build, but many people said that they need lots of power to sound pretty good, so I just used my old MB Quart references from back in the days. Work great for now, but Focals are in the near future.

If you are just looking to upgrade to some better sound with a stock head unit amp, some high quality coaxial will be a good choice. Then if you decided to you want more later, you can add a amp and new components.

A lot of rave on Pioneer PRS-720 component set that is probably within your budget. Not sure on the mounting depth I'd double check cause the mounting depth on the z sucks.

Also if you're not going to run an amplifier to them just stay stock imo.
