New head unit problems
I installed a Clarion CX609 double din and it works great except when I use the brakes. Every time a hit the brakes a hear a single "pop" sound in all the speakers. I've changed the position of the gound a couple times and nothing works! Has this happened to anyone??
Thanks for providing additional information. I'm not sure I have a good understanding. You said:
Since you have an amp, you must have the Bose setup (The OEM Clarion does not have an external amp).
Is that correct? You have the OEM Bose upgrade? I ask because my answer depends upon this assumption. If you have the OEM Clarion CES, the following answer is bogus.
OK… operating under this assumption (you have the OEM Bose upgrade), your problem is the adapter that connects your non-Bose H/U to your Bose components.
So, why would braking affect your CES? When you press on the brake pedal, your ABS system awakens (it’s not necessarily activated at this point, but it’s now on-line). Obviously the adapter for your aftermarket H/U connecting to the Bose components has the incorrect resistance for its connections, and you get noise in your sound system. It’s most likely coming from a ground that affects the adapter. You can test the ground, and you may need to add resistance.
If in fact you do not have the Bose upgrade, but instead have the OEM Clarion CES; the same cause might be coming into play. In this case the problem (and the solution) is less complex since you do not have the additional factor of a Bose adapter. Now you are simply dealing with a ground that has inadequate resistance. You fix that by doing what the guys above recommend (improving the ground). You probably do not need to add a resistor to make things work.
Thanks for posting and please let us know how you finally get this resolved. That helps us learn.
