I got the infinity kappas. They sound very clear, and crisp. Then again I got an Amp for them. So not sure how much different they sound without a amp. It would be a great set up if you have subs. You will need spacers for the front speakers.
Unfortunately you're going to have to do the hard work.
The only thing that matters is how they sound to you - not to me, not another Z owner, not some reviewer on a blog, or golden ear writing in a magazine. You have to please yourself. Also unfortunately most people can't listen worth a darn, they hear plenty well, but don't listen very well. Where the experts and golden ears excel is with a sonic memory, most of us can't remember and compare two speakers an hour apart.
I use to play a game with my home stereo/theater. I'd sit someone down in front of my 20 or so components - equalizers, analyzers, compressor limiters, pre-amps, amplifiers, tape, disk, surround sound processors ... and route the sound only to the front two surround speakers (nice Infinity RS2000s). To a man everyone was impressed with the sound ... and then I'd go "oh sorry" and turn the rear surrounds on "wow that's much better!". Then I'd fake a second mistake and turn the main speakers on - and the music opens up by 200% as the Infinity RS3's come alive. Finally I pop the sub-woofers on and the bottom 80 Hz worth of music is returned to the mix. At each stage the listener was convinced that he was hearing everything - when in fact he was hearing the surround effects, then just the mid-bass and up. The point is that people listen very poorly.
So grab your ears, grab a CD (NOT MP3) of your favorite tunes - a variety if you're so disposed - and spend an afternoon at a car stereo place listening to the music side-by-side between speakers. Take notes - better, worse, about the same ... when I worked in car stereo installations (many moons ago) we loved it when someone who knew how to listen and shop actually came in. We were in the business because we loved it (and the pay check) so if you go in and start to do some critical listening you're one of us!
You can probably gather the likely candidates from a list of builds here but listen to as many speakers as you can. If you're on a budget listen to those a bit more expensive and a bit less expensive too. If you have to save up a bit more money to get a speaker pair that really sounds good why not wait?

If you are not planning to add an external amplifier, I would consider some intermediate coaxial speakers. My reasoning is that you want a speaker that sounds decent without a lot of power. There are many choices for coaxials that sound good with lower power (from your internal H/U’s amp). Of course you improve the sound when adding an external amp.
If you go with component speakers, your choices are limited to cheap models (that typically have poor sound) since better component speaker usually require more power than the internal amp in an H/U delivers.
You mention in your post that “i also got some subs.” Of course your “subs” will require an external amp unless they have this built-in. What SubW’s do you have?

Wow really impressed with your help guys!
I got 2 10 inch kicker comp vr
does anyone know of some speakers that are a direct fit??
That don't require spacers and modding.
Just looking for some improvment over the stock speakers. Notting too crazy
the best audio shop with the most speakers I can listen to is bestbuy lol
and only like 2 of their speakers work that are on display
Thanks again

OK… got it… so here’s the plan.
Now “we’r cookin’.” …big sound… small price… Life is great.

- Disconnect your rear speakers since these are really cheap junk that will only pollute the sound.
- Buy a set of Infinity coaxials (cost is maybe around $200 if you shop carefully), mount these in the front doors, and drive the coaxials with your H/U’s internal amp (saving the cost of an external amp).
- Mount your two “10 inch kicker comp vr” SubW’s wherever (and of course, drive these with an external amp so they thump... big thump).
Now “we’r cookin’.” …big sound… small price… Life is great.

Just as a note: you don't necessarily need shallow-mounts. I'm not sure how deep those are and how much room you have behind the door because last time I was back there was a while ago. BUT...you can cut the stock speakers apart since they suck anyway and use them as "spacers" if you need more clearance.
GL with the rear speakers...that's my favorite piece of plastic to remove -.-

Is any brand/model considered an upgrade to the stock speakers?
I am removing my door panels for some leather work and have some free pioneer speakers laying around 2-way cheapos. But if anything is better than oem, might as well switch them out while its opened up.

I assume that's the case if you have the stock door speakers now (but, I ask since i've learned here never to assume anything
