I had a 8gb class 6 SD card, I had to convert my video files using the DivX tool and it read on the unit fine. For the hard drive, I waited a good 5 mins and all the screen would say was something like "incompatible format" or something to that extent (forgot what it said). But the weird thing is, I had the Pioneer 690ub unit before I installed the p4200dvd and it read the audio files on my hard drive fine. So I'm kind of stumped.

Bypass was extremely easy.

Careful, as the pin numbers on the bypass given in this video might not match up to yours.
I used a 4-pin automotive relay from autozone. This one to be specific:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...lot+Automotive
Simply connect pins 30 and 85 to ground. Connect pin 87 to your green remote turn on wire from the head unit. Connect pin 88 to the remote amp turn on coming also from the head unit. DONE!
Connect pins 30 and 85 to an actual ground point on the car. I tried to connect it to the black and white 'ground' wire with no luck.

I've installed a 4200 it works well with the 16 Gb class 6 SD card. 4 movies on the SD in a avi format. Too bad the 4200 won't accept H264 format.
Anyone notice that the box specs says it's 14 watts RMS into 4 ohms <= 1% THD. Whereas the manual and Pioneer website quote 22 watts RMS into 4 ohm <= 5% THD.
I played a 1k hz sinewave and looked at it with a scope and got a little over 22 volts p-p before distortion. This works out to be about 15 watts RMS. Still enough headroom, it can be louder than I would normally listen to (15 on the volume). Not running an external amp for the speakers.
I also installed a Basslink into the compartment in back of the driver seat. It's driven by the 4200's dedicated RCA subwoofer output.
All in all a great headunit and great overal sound quality.

Has anyone used a picture/wallpaper for background while music plays? I tried pics on the SD card, but it didnt show anything, and there is an option for a disc, any thoughts?

Is anyone else experiencing this? Music videos won't resume after you turn off the engine. When I turn my on my car, it doesn't resume where I last left off on my music videos, it starts playing songs in the beginning of my playlists.

Nevermind figured it out. I used a thumb drive and connected it with pictures and there it is! Looks awesome with a custom background picture!

The issue I'm having now is ever since I did the iphone software 4.0 update when I switch songs it just shut off and says non compatible or something like that. Anyone else run into this? Im just using my older ipod nano right now so its all good but enjoy using my iphone (3GS by the way in case of problem comparisons). May just be a patch in the next update that will take care of it who knows!

hey guys i just installed the unit... do not get the metra kit... it DOES NOT clear the unit. Unless the dash is a little different with different years. I have an 08 and i installed everything properly but the unit hits the kit everytime it opens.
Any pics on the dremel to make the kit clear the unit?

harness
So I just picked up one of these. I have a 2005 350z with the crap bose system. I am going to use this head unit with the stock speakers and sub until I get more cash. I was wondering what exact harness you guys bought.

Ive had the p4200 for about 4 months now. Bought the bluetooth/HD radio and everything. The touch screen just went out. Panasonic says i need to ship it to a facility in texas for repair, and they will ship it back to me. This is obviously a huge PITA, as this now involves removing the broken unit from my dash, reassembling the dash without a head unit, waiting weeks for the fixed unit to arrive, then reinstalling it. Buyer beware, if your p4200 goes out, its gonna be a PITA to get it fixed.
DONT BUY!
Get the more expensive kenwood unit and dont mess with panasonics shitty products and even worse customer service.

I don't use CD's and the SD card doesn't have enough memory for my usage.
I have a 250gb Seagate external hard drive that is formatted to FAT32.
Thats 250gb of memory that I can use for anything.
Pretty much its slap on there. No tilting or moving.
Its a cost I have to take. =]

I'm looking to get the avh4200DVD for my 07 Z. already ordered the metra kit.
can someone post pics/how-to on cutting the metra kit so the 4200 opens/closes correctly?
after using your 4200 for a while, is it worth it to buy it off amazon for ~$340? or should I buy an pioneer avic f700bt, f900bt, etc?
thanks
