Does anyone know where I can find an amp rack like this that mounts inside the compartment behind the drivers seat?

 

Here's the setup on my '08; JL 250.1 in the glovebox (minimal loss of space), with a JL 320.4 under the glovebox (hidden), and a JL 10" sub in a custom enclosure behind the driver's seat (with an OEM Bose grille in place). Neither amp gets hot, just barely warmer to the touch than ambient temp.

That's a "knock-off" of the CAS enclosure, for 1/3 the price, and it looks like MDF instead of fiberglass. Never used either, though, so I can't tell you anything more than that. The box in my previous post was made from 3/4" MDF, and it's 18.5" x 12.5" x 6.5". That's the largest you can fit unless you want to make it an odd (i.e. trapezoidal) shape, but the internal volume was perfect for the sub I used. Cost was ~$30 for the MDF, screws, caulking, etc.

 

Did you have to cut the 2 bolt tabs hanging from the top to fit that? According to my quick math that is 0.55 cubic feet of internal volume as well?

 

Your math is correct. JL said 0.62 cu. ft. is ideal, but 0.55 was just as good if I added 1/2 pound of fiberfill to the inside of the box. I didn't have to cut the tabs.

 

Interesting. Does the dB output increase if you increase the volume of the box and match it with more fiberfill?

I ask because I have measly 150W sub in there that hits fine in it's own box in the trunk, but I'm afraid to lose bass when I stick it in the glove box.

 

You're really asking the wrong guy, but my understanding is that each particular driver has an "ideal" box size, based on the driver's design and natural resonant frequency. Each manufacturer should be able to provide the specs for their drivers. Some drivers are designed to be used in a sealed box, while others are for ported boxes, or no box (free-air). The OEM Blose subwoofer is an example of a free-air driver. As for the fiberfill, it works by absorbing the heat energy as the air in the box is compressed by the driver, and then returning that energy to the system when the air is allowed to re-expand, thus allowing the driver to work as if it's in a larger box.

 

You aren't going to notice any higher dB level by adding fiberfill to a box.

What direction is your sub facing in your trunk? If its facing a wall, you won't be able to replicate that level of bass by moving it to the glove box (especially if you face it towards the front of the car).

 

It's a sealed 10" facing the hatch glass in the trunk. I want more trunk space but have the feeling that moving it into the glove box behind my seat will drown some output.
