reset the battery. That always does the trick. That also happened to me. Most likely because you disconnect the white HVAC controller box and you turn the car on. Just reset the box and the light will clear. IF not, take it to AutoZone or Advance Auto Part and borrow their OBDII code reader to see what code are you tripping.
*ICE* is probably right. If you don't disconnect the battery while unplugging stuff in the dash, chances are real good you're going to trigger a CEL. That's why the first step recommended in almost any electronics related operations is to disconnect the battery.
You are making this more complicated than it is. As mentioned above you got a CEL because the ignition was turned on without the white A/C box being plugged in. This has been discussed many times if you do a "search". Simply either reset the ECU or it will go away after a few days. Nothing to worry about.

I did the same thing when I installed my Avic-D3. It's no big deal...
