What does everyone have to hook their Ipod or Iphone up to the car stereo. I just bought my Z and I need a way to hook up my Iphone to listen to music.

whats the head unit you have? I replaced the stock one just for that reason, to be able to hookup my ipod. From all of the stuff I've seen there are two (ok three) ways to do it. Replace the head unit to have an ipod port (usb). get some kind of inline ipod 'injectors' not sure how they work but have run across a few. and the old style radio transmitter. head unit is the most work and most $$, but provides you with the best sound quality. getting a radio transmitter is the quickest and cheapest way. Do you know how u want to do it? also look in the audio diy sections, lots of info in there

There's a mod here in the DIY boards for adding an aux input. I would just buy a new headunit as your first "mod" which would have a 3.5mm AUX in that you can use to hook up the iPod, etc.

I have this in both my Z and my Pathfinder. Great if you are not ready for a new headunit. Can use the added Aux-in for other audio sources. Can find it cheaper elsewhere. Installation is easy once you have your dash out

Seriously, if you want to go with the stock speakers just buy a cheap headunit with AUX IN, or a low-end Pioneer will still give you decent sound with an iPod connection on the back to control the iPod with the headunit.
But then again if you are already in this bracket, just spend $400-$500 on a Double Din DVD unit (I would recommend Pioneer P4100 DVD personally).
Although you have to factor in other costs with a full install as well:
Quality wire connectors
Pioneer iPod cable
Wiring harness adapter
Antenna adapter
Metra dash Kit

The USA-Spec adaptor has pros and cons:
Pros:
Keeps a stock appearance (maybe not a pro for some)
Uses the steering wheel controls to control the iPod
Charges iPod / iPhone
Best sound quality available with stock head unit
Cons:
Sometimes have to turn the head unit on and off to find the iPod
Not iPhone compatible. It works but you get the message every time
Defalts to external control everytime you connect. You have to push the preset 6 button to get the iPod display back.
All in all I like mine. It's easy plug and play installation.

This is a great head unit
plays/uses CDs, DVDs, mp3, SD memory and USB flash. The price varies on the internet, I brought it for ~ $430 about a month ago. I did a self install, this site has lots of diy info.
Ipod controls and will also charge your ipod/iphone. The photo show my iphone connected to Pandora, thats why you don't see the Ipod controls on the headunit screen. The reception is great...which would be dependent on your area.
