Car Alarm Help
Yeah after doing alot of research I realized they are the same. Do you know any good places to recommend for installation in the gaithersburg-rockville area? Also, what are your thoughts on Best Buy installation?
I just want a good alarm with shock sensor, if it comes with remote start then so be it, but I am really not interested in the remote start, I am more interested in the sensitivity of the alarm - touch it goes off!
Thank you for your help!

I know a few Best Buy installers and they are very good and MECP certified, but at the same time there are Best Buy installers that are not very good at all. Its a crap shoot. Its not all about the place you go because most shops will have good installers and bad ones. If did go with Best Buy though you know that they are a big company and will take care of you if something did go wrong. i guess they also warranty the install for the life of the vehicle. From the installers I know from there Best Buy has very high standards for their alarm remote start installs. They don't use T taps or Scotch Locks either like some mom and pop shops do. I would search around install bays in you area and ask them what kind of connection they use when installing alarms and how long they have been installing for. If you do go to best buy see if the installer is MECP advanced certified because if he is that should mean he knows his stuff and has probably been installing for awhile.
If you really want a sensitive alarm you might want to also invest in a motion sensor. They can become annoying though. Most of the alarms have the same shock sensor its more about the features you want, as in 2 way feature and how many aux outputs you want.

Thats great advice. I will check the best buys around here and see if they are MECP advanced certified. Someone else mentioned to me that same thing that Best Buy will be here in a year if something happens, but who knows with these small shops, they come and go so fast. Do you know any installers that work for Best Buy in MD?

No I dont know any installers in MD sorry. Shock sensors are really not that sensitive to where if you touch the car it will go off. if they did make them that sensitive they would be going off every time it rained. Thats why i suggested the motion sensor that way if they walk too close to your car it will warn away ,and if they try to touch your window to look in or something like that it will go off.
The best connection would be when they strip back the insulation on the wire in the car the poke a hole through the wire in the car the stick the wire to be connected through the hole wrap the wire around the factory wire then solder, tape then zip tie the connection to stop any stress on the connection. I know Best Buy does it that way but doesn't solder because it makes it easier to remove when the customer wants to alarm removed. Personally i don't think the solder is necessary if you do all the other thing I mentioned. But I have seen a lot of mom and pop shops use T tap and Scotch Locks, i think those are horrible connections. the reason they use them are because they are fast.

I just got the viper 5901 with the additional radar sensor. I love this system. I turned the sensitivity all the way up and rain and anything that walks like 2 feet from my z would set the alarm off
Thats sweet! Sensitivity is great, but what about at work when your parking in the parking lot. So anyone that parks and walks next to your car it goes off? Also does it have a shock or tilt sensor?
you will be fine with just the radar sensor. you just have to play with the sensitivity to what you like. If you really need the sensitivity up that much you better park far away from everyone else. because they will set it off just by opening there car door. And I got it installed at a specialty shop that only installs alarms n systems, so look for one around you
so is the viper 5901 to much for wht i need? also what actions trigger the radar sensor? touch, vibration? also the radar sensor doesnt have the 2 feet sensor thing right? thanks again for ur help!!
