So after having aftermarket headunits and carputers in the z I am going back to stock. I was working on a project that I lost interest in and I just wanted the z's interior to look "normal' again. Anyway I didnt want to lose my aftermarket door speakers so I bought a LOC. My issue is I have no output from the headunit it seems. My rear speakers are stock so even if it is something to do with the LOC then at least they should work
I even bought another used head unit to see if that was the issue and when I plugged it in that didn't work either. I have a multimeter to test outputs but I am not sure what I should be testing for. The head unit turns on and shows that its playing but I hear nothing. Any advice from an EE or other experts. Thanks in advance!

^^ No one is responding, so I’ll start by asking a couple of questions.

- Since you are installing a LOC, I assume you have an external amp. What brand/model external amp is in the car now?
- You said the rear speakers are stock. Are these speakers connected to the external amp?

Good questions the rear speakers are not connected to the amp which is why I figured they would work when I plugged in the head unit. Also the amp works just fine, it turns on and I can plug in my iphone via 3.5mm to rca cable and it plays through my after market door speakers.
Well crap… I know how frustrating this type of thing can be. I want to help, but now I’m only guessing (and guessing isn’t very helpful).
I have done nearly the same thing you are attempting (stock radio > LOC > external amp > speakers), except I connected all four of my aftermarket speakers to a 4 channel external amp (Eclipse 4 Channel Amp Model EA3422). I don’t think it would make any difference in your case (using the external amp to power only the front speakers). That should work.
Something else… I used a stock Clarion H/U for my setup.
Question: Is the Stock H/U you are installing a Clarion or Bose H/U?

Thanks for the reply. If it’s not a Bose H/U then the problem must be in the wiring. Perhaps it’s the ground for the speakers? But, how could all 4 speakers have a faulty ground?
You’re probably growing tired of pulling the H/U, but do it one more time and check each speaker line out with any loose speaker you have laying around and see if that works. If it does, you know the problem is with the car’s wiring. If you don’t get sound from your “test” speaker, then it’s the H/U (unlikely since you have used two different H/U’s).
