Default Double Din Recommendations (No Nav)

I need a double din head unit between 200-400 dollars, possible more if its worth it. I don't need navigation because I already have that in my cubby, hence my price range, I am mainly going to use this with my ipod.

I need something that is touchscreen and very user friendly with selecting different music from my ipod.

Let me know your suggestions.

feel safe buying an alpine iva w505 on ebay.. they are built well and your warranty wont be an issue until far outside teh 1 year included if bought by an authorized dealer.

I paid around 699 for mine.. its Alpine.. it clowns other gimmick ridden units at half the price. You can find cheaper.. but do you want to when for a little more you can have the best parts?

i RUN ONE.. AND ALOT MORE..AND ITS GREAT. SELECTABLE AMBER ILLUMINATION MATCHES Z WELL TOO.

Has full control of your ipod.. not just an aux in cable too. Ipod movies, all of it.

I should not make piosts after a night of drinking... i cant type for sh#t haha.
But seriously, buy one.
DOnt blow out and buy a pioneer or something lame.

Check out Amazon and Kenwood DDX models. I have a previous model and like you I have a separate Garmin Nav in the cubby. I also store my Ipod Nano in the cubby and that's where my connection from the Ipod to the head unit is.

I would recommend the Pioneer AVH-P4100DVD if you're on a budget.

Amber LED's (selectable) match the Z nice, custom background option, Ipod, Bluetooth, XM/Sirius, backup camera, A/V in, USB in, Aux in, 3 High Voltage pre-outs for your amps.

Good unit for the money and I've been using mine for a long time with no trouble.

I really like my Clarion VX400. It's down to like $340 @ amazon.com. Navi is optional @ $170-220. Backup Camera optional.

here's a few pics.

The thing I like about the Pioneer in that pricepoint is it's 7" which fills the entire dual-din area, but that Clarion is nice and I bet it sounds good too.

I spent a couple months trying to find something. I was leaning heavily on the Pioneer but @ 1k and not needing Nav I searched for alternatives. my biggest problem was wanting to see what I buy. For one I don't have the luxury of living in an area I can find or go to authorized dealers or retailers to check these HU's out. Secondly anyplace I did go didn't have the DD Pioneers, Clarions, etc. They'd have limited supply of single dins. Even online it's hard to find pics & videos to get a good idea of the deck. Clarion.com, Pioneer.com, Kenwood, Alpine, no help... Youtube had some vids but they didnt influence me. I sided w/ the Clarion because I'm happy w/ other deck & liked the idea I could upgrade to Navi for a reasonable price if I wanted to later... If you don't care about name I hear JVC actually makes some really nice HU's so you could look into those as well...

best advice I can give other than the fact I'm really happy w/ that Clarion is to take your time and look around @ what's out there. Check w/ Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com, etc. to find some HU's in your price range that youre interested in. Shop around for pricing and if possible go check them out in person. Fact of the matter is you really can't go wrong. Especially with the current model Pioneers, Clarion, Kenwood, Alpine, JVC, etc. Most of the newer models are all good HU's & it comes down to personal preference.

If you have the Bose 6cd changer are you pretty much boned if you want to keep the 6cd changer and still have a new head unit. i was looking into trying to put the new smaller 7in ipad into the upper din and keeping my stock radio. All i want is to keep my cd changer and still listen to mp3's. I know there are ways to hook my ipod/iphone to the stereo, but i want a touch screen mounted in that pointless upper din.

Any suggestions?

Since acquiring an IPOD, I haven't bought a CD. I purchase/download tunes now. If you have an MP player, do you really need a CD changer?

Haha no, not really. I normally rock pandora off my phone or my itouch. It just seems like a waste to get rid of the cd player. Plus that little compartment is pointless. What would u suggest as far as a touch screen if i were to get rid of the oem stereo. It is a bose system.

Get the Pioneer AVH-3200DVD its like 250$ free shipping from amazon. Heres what you do.

Go google "Amazon Pioneer 30% coupon" find the good one then apply it to amazon. Retail on the headunit is like 388+ but with 30% off and free ship is pretty sweet

Good luck

I have the AVH-3200BT, which is almost the same. What I like most is that you can change buttons illumination to amber, so it will match perfectly.

It would be perfect if it comes with an USB port in the back, so you can hide the cable...
