Head Units
OK im in the market for a headunit. Theres 5 im looking at
Kenwood Excelon KDC-X869
or
Alpine CDA-9815
or
Pioneer DEH-P750MP
or
JVC KD-SH9750
or
Panasonic MXE CQ-HX2083U
Has anyone here used these? opinions on them? I really like the looks of the Panasonic.. But not sure on which one i should get. It seems the Alpine has the most features. And the pioneer has the 2nd most features. But the panasonic looks cooler!
Well any opinions on these HU or other HUs in the same price range would be appreciated!
Thanks

The pIoneer you have listed is a Premier unit. Pioneer premier is nicer than Pioneer's standard line. I use an 840mp, and it sounds real nice, and has loads of features. My vote would be for the Alpine of the Pioneer Premier. I would stay away from the Panasonic and JVC head units...I don't tknow much about the Kenwood.
This wasn't a choice you gave, but I was also considering the Alpine 9815. I ordered a Clarion DXZ835MP off ebay. It ended up being about $285 shipped. It also has a 30 day return policy on it. I found it cheaper elsewhere, but I wanted the return policy. I haven't installed it yet, but I bought it under the assumption that Clarion sounds as good as Alpine. This one has TONS of selectable colors too, so it can match the amber colors in the dash if you like.
I have the Alpine 9815. It sounds as good as or better than any other head unit I could find. The time correction makes a huge difference in the placement of instruments in a realistic space and
the WMA is also a very nice feature (120 songs on a single CD!).
No, it is not going to compare to high end home gear (Audio Research, Mark Levinson, Krell, Conrad Johnson, etc.). However, It has an extremely friendly user interface compared to some other brands and doesn't look that bad either.
Check out the Eclipse units too - they sound good and look incredible - just fewer features.
You should be O.K. with the patch cables you selected since they have twisted conductors that will reduce EMI - I used a similar product from Monster Cable - didn't bother trying less expensive interconnects because of the amount of electrical noise present in an automotive environment. I paid around $60.00 for a 5 meter 4 conductor set. I am sure a lot of the extra $ goes to their advertising costs but they seem to work well.
Good luck!
