If one was to find the wires coming out of the tape player then you could probably splice in the lines there... correct? I'm sure that its going to be on some rediculously complex circuit board though... i'm just trying to get out of getting a new head unit. I like the look of the stock one and I like having the changer there.
The output of the tape head is probably much smaller than a typical line-out from an auc source. You would need to reduce the level.

If you could tap the proper wires (the tape section output) AND match the signal level you would still need to trick the deck in to thinking there is a tape in there.

It could be done, but it would not be trivial.

The cassette adapters that you pop in to the cassette deck work suprisingly well. There is no tape his because there is no tape sliding over the head. The sound is not perfect, but it is better than you would expect from a $15 adapter.

I use on of the cassette asapter to play my MP3 player in my truck and in my car.

How would you rate the sound of this device? I remember having one years ago to listen to my cd player in the car but at the time was not concerned with audio quality. How would you compare it to an FM modulator? How much will it degrade my mp3s?

Thanks!!!

They are supposed to be digital quality, but I can't see how that is possible, since its basically transmitting the analog info from the mic output of your source through the tape head. Lets say a CD is 0 out of 10, then amybe this is like 7.5 or 8 out of 10 on the same scale...jsut a guess, but it is probably ok. Hey for $20 its worth a shot right ? Goto walmart or kmart and get one of hte better ones, and if it sounds like doodoo take it right back...either way its a cheap experiment.

Thumbs up The arsenal is slowly mounting!

YUP! My mind has been made up! The Bose 6 in-dash CD Head Unit STAYS! I paid for it! - and - I'm gonna use it! However, the rest of the junk absolutely MUST GO! Here are the following stereo replacement items that have arrived thus far, for the said December install.

(1). Infinity BassLink X Clear-Chassis Powered Subwoofer = $200.00
(2). PowerDriver PD4 and CableLink Harness = $200.00
(3). Infinity Kappa 62.5i 6½" 2-way ‘Front’ Speakers = $95.00
**Still en route:
(4). Kenwood eXcelon KFC-X178 6¾" 2-way ‘Rear’ Speakers = $100.00
(5). U.S. acoustics USB-4085 85W x 4 Car Amplifier (3 yr Warranty) = $179.00
(6). 2 Scosche EFX 300-Watt Amp Wiring Kits = $40.00
(7). 2 DB Link 4/8 Gauge Power Distribution Blocks = $20.00

Stating the prices for these audio items is only for a cost reference. You may prefer other speakers, etc. that are more to your taste and/or bank account. I for one, will be enjoying the removal of the 'fisher-price' sounding speakers - in exchange for something that is a little bit more deserving inside a 350Z.

I will be posting the audio adventure pictures upon its conclusion. For those of you who wish to retain your OEM factory interior appearance (keeping their BOSE HU)...this is truly the way to go. I personally feel most of the credit must go to 'grutter' for his valuable research and helpful knowledge into this matter. Hey let's give it up to a guy who knows his stuff!

The best part of this recommended install is knowing the fact - that if I choose to unload the BOSE down the road (or out on the road) - the rest of the labor for this install would already done.........and with some fine equipment.

Just be careful--it uses non-standard (differential) ouputs, and you need special line convertors to take the diff output to line level output for input to your amplifiers. I think Soundgate makes some nice convertors and a few people here have used them with good success.

I tried a couple different convertors on my setup, before I threw in the towel and ditched my Bose Head unit altogether. I was disappointed with the overall sound of the head unit, after alot of upgrades, and it may have been related to the convertors.

I finally decided on the Pioneer Premier DEH-840mp head unit, and I love it !

Here is a recent pic:
i see you have the nav unit. did you keep the voice navigation with the aftermarket headunit? if so how was it wired?
