Default General questions

Hey everyone, I just got my 1st Z about 3 or 4 weeks ago, and I have some general questions.
----------

1. How badly does the stock, non-bose sound system suck?

In the way that stock stereo systems, I've had Dodge neons that have a better sound system than what I'm experiencing here. Even with the bass turned completely up, I have absolutely zero low end. However, every now and again, it sounds like my bass kicks in and I have about 38 seconds of what i would consider to be a decent stock stereo system for any given car. One thing that I've been seeing is that in some threads that there is a microphone or something rather that cuts the bass when it gets too loud. From what i was to gather that was just on the bose systems. Or does that exist on stock too? Anything that could be causing a very empty sounding system?

and

2. Where exactly are all of the speakers on a base model / non bose car?

I'm assuming 2 in the doors, and the 2 speaker grills right behind the head rest, are those just empty spots for the 10" sub that I've been reading about or are there speakers in those? Are there any in speakers in the trunk / hatch area? Because all in all, i'm wondering if I'm having any general disconnects with any of the speakers that are in the car. Because like i said, this stock system is pretty **** poor. Very sub par what i would expect even out of a stock system?

Any info would be great. Thanks guys

1. I have the stock non-bose system in my 06 and I personally don't find it that bad. And that is after coming from a 2006 Cobalt with the OEM pioneer system (4 woofers, 2 tweeters and a 10in sub) which sounded really good.

In my Z I find the bass to be good all things considered. I mean don't expect a 2000watt ball rattling bass. But it is enough to make the mirrors vibrate and make a song sound good.

2. There are 2 speakers in those grills behind the head rest...believe or not. If you listen closely...you will hear them. They are garbage. With my new Pioneer doubledin I just fade all the way to the front and don't use the rears.

What people are probably going to recommend is that you replace the front woofer/tweeter combo with a nice set of components and just forget about the rears. This is something I will probably do in the future when I am no longer satisfied.

Joe.

Yeah, see, the weird thing is that, every now and again i'll get a pretty decent sound. Almost like some speakers aren't connected well. And the previous owner had some sort of an ipod / iphone interface installed. I have no idea what it is, but all i know is that if i connect my iphone, press "CD" , i can listen to my iphone with no problem. Half of me is wondering if the installation of that jacked up anything on my head unit.

ehhh the stock speakers were junk in my 03. I repaced them with 6.5" alpine type r's all around for about 80 bucks a pair. WAY better, my z sounds real good now. Easy install, front speakers will need a 1 inch spacer.
