Amps lost power...help!
Hi.....my amps stopped receiving power almost a month ago and I just now started troubleshooting it and I'm stumped. I very tech savy but this one is beyond me. I first thought it might have been the remote wire on the headunit, but when you give the amp 12v power to the remote terminal it still doesn't turn on. Then I thought it was the fuse up front but it is just fine. Then I went to the fuse box splitter between the amps and those are fine as well. This part is the stumper....even though the main amp wire coming from the battery is fine and fully fused up to the distro block....I'm not getting any power from the line....i even went as far as to touch a ground wire to the main wire to see if i can get some sparks but I get nothing. I tried the same thing up front at the battery and it sparked, but near the distro block i get nothing. I checked my grounds and none of the wires were loose or dislodged..
There was no sign that anything was ever wrong with my system....i just turned the car off at night and came in the next morning and i got nothing.
Any ideas?

Buy a volt meter. Even a $20 Craftsman meter is better then just randomly touching high current wires together inside your vehicle (which can cause damage to sensitive electronics like BCMs and ECUs).
If I had to guess, I would guess that you have a cheap plastic fuse holder under the hood. I would guess that it has gotten hot and melted and the connection between the fuse and the fuse holder has been compromised thus you have power under the hood but not back to your distribution block.

rule number one:
if an amp doesnt work, pull it out, bench it.
If it doesnt work, there ya go.
If it DOES, only THEN start digging thru the car.
Use a voltmeter to test the remote turn on as well as the voltage at the battery and at the amp. All power isnt the same.
If you get 10.5 volts to the amp and 12 at the battery, id assume a very poor ground and if not only THEN assume a power cable or connection is at fault.
If all thats fine, thest the remote turn on voltage.
Eay way is to get a piece of wire and jump it from the + on the amp to the amps turn on terminal.. it will pop a bit, its fine.. if it turns on, use a relay as is the preoper way for the RTO.. i know my Alpines will NOT turn on w the voltage comming out of the back of my ALpine decks RTO lead.. i requires a relay.
