Default Rear Speaker Mounting Depth?

I searched..so either my search skills are bad, or theres nothing easily found on this..

I want to put two Kicker 10CVT652's in the rear speaker mounts.

http://www.amazon.com/Kicker-6-5-Com...4636543&sr=1-1

These are 6.5" shallow mount subwoofers with a mounting depth of 2 7/8", which worries me. I really like the idea of a complete stealth setup, and I'm not looking for HEAVY bass. I currently have a kicker tc104, which sits behind my strut bar, but anyone can look in and see that..so I really want to get it working with some stealth with minimal rattling.

Thanks guys!
Chris

these are midbass speakers.. not real woofers, they will not give you "bass".. and you would not want midbass behind you.... you hear the location of ALL bass by where you perceive the midbass.. and you want that in your doors.
Thats a woofer youd want in your front door if you ran a 3 way system up front..

Lots of GTO posts about them..lots of good. little bad. I'm not much of a bass head, I just want to balance my music.

bass head or not, its not an optimal deal, but its your car.

in terms of mouting depth, you have more than enuff in there.. but its all thin sheet metal under there.. my Alpine SPR coaxials already get some of it humming and rattling.. you will be looking at alot of plastic rattle right behind your head w those in the rear locations.
Just something to be aware of.

Personally, I've never heard a great free air sub and I doubt they exist. All the ones I've ever heard (especially the Kickers) sound like muddy, garbled crap.

So maybe I should lean towards the srq customs box. Have you heard a behind the driver sub?

yes, freeairs suck.. i cant imagine how a midbass like this would sound.. eesh.

SRQ: im not a huge fan as i have one now, but i have a very high power sub in it, and a bit of a purest when it comes to autosound.

It did rattle the plastic but its fixable.. and a far better idea then kicker 6.5 midbasses.. they again arent subwoofers.. theres no way to run those without bandpassing the signal.. lets not get ahead of ourselves tho...

buy the SRQ box off ebay, throw a JL audio 10w3 in it, call it a day. You will be FAR happier.. this i promise.

Thanks man. I'll get to ordering one of those. Do you really think I need a 10w3? I have an mrp-m500 alpine amp, and I really dont need super high quality, I'm just looking for balanced music.

its not about loudness, its about what driver will operate in .6 cu ft of airspace. Its extremely small..loosely stuff it w pillow filling as well btw.

they all appear to be lsited ofr play in about that size, but as a previous JL dealer, i would highly advise against running the lower end stuff in such a small box.. youre not going get your level sound.

Its up to you.. the others arent bad,,, id just be happier w a w3 if it was me.

10W3v3-4 --------------- 0.625 cu. ft. / 17.7 liters

10W1v2-4----------------- 0.625 cu. ft. / 17.7 liters

10W0v3-4 -----------------0.65 cu. ft. / 18.41 liters

Well, I like the 10w3, just not the price. It's the jl rated best for my amp though..I was thinking a 1060w infinity.
