JVC KW-AVX840 install
Tried installing a JVC KW-AVX840 unit in my '06 350z and ran into trouble with the trim plate fitting properly. The trim plate that comes with the head unit is a few mm too tall and a few mm too narrow. I bought a mounting kit made by American International (#ND-K744) and the it fit a little better but still too tall. I'm trying to avoid taking the dremel out if at all possible. Is there another install kit that would fit better?
The trim plate I purchased says its for 2006-2008 350Zs. I'm not actually sure whether I have a 2005 model year or 2006, which would explain why mounting kit fits so poorly if I in fact have a 2005 model. I recently bought the car which was advertised as a 2006 but the manufacture date (per sticker in door jamb) is Sept 05. I've tried a few VIN decoder websites but can get an info...likely because my car was imported from Japan and not intended for US market. VIN is JN1GAAZ33Z0400214...anyone know how to decipher the model year from this?
Thanks!

I just installed the JVC KW AV-740 in my Z. I love it. I would say that you have an 05 based on the build date but I'm not 100% sure. I tried looking up your VIN but it says that it doesn't exist lol
A valid VIN cannot include the letter Z in the 10th place, so what you posted can't be right.
As for the faceplate, just go to Crutchfield.com, plug in the info on your car and buy the Scosche dash stereo install kit for a 2-DIN stereo. I've never even heard of American International, so I'm not surprised it doesn't work. Stick with Scosche or Metra.
Easy way to tell if it's a 2005 or 2006: If it's a 2005, the hazard switch is toward the back of the shifter. If it's a 2006, it's in front.
