What subs would yall go with?
^^ +1000.
Because I used to Sell JL and Alpine.. and thats because I was tired of returns and warranty from other brands. If you know the history behind the Alps corp and the Luxman brand, its very easy to find out WHY Alpine costs twice as much as Kenwood or other lesser brands, youd buy it for life as well.
OP.. you mention "speakers".. are we talking subs? Mids?
Car audio is VERY subjective, everyone likes something different.
The first two replies to your thread are BOTH correct.
We can reccomend good brands for you that work well installed and last over time.. THEN...
you can go drive somewhere to listen to them yourself.. part a, part b.
Id certainly not say 80% of "audiophiles" use non name brand.. maybe 80% of IASCA SPL competitors do.. but Id say that judging from the size of the companies and revenues earned, the big ones are still.. well..the big ones. That gives you your real figure.
Alpine and JL and Boston Acoutsics or Focal FTW ... til I die.
Other stuff might be good, but with these companies, its ALWAYS a no brainer. Been in every car Ive ever owned , and my systems are always insanely good and the highest of their high end.

I used to have two Alpine 12" Type R's in the car I had previous to my Z and I absolutely loved them. They provide so much high-quality power for such a great price. When I get around to adding some nice base to my car, I'll definitely be taking the Alpine road.
Don't get me wrong though, there's nothing wrong with smaller companies, etc.. However, the biggest companies are the biggest for a reason. When you choose a product from them, you can trust that you're getting quality merchandise that will last and do you right.
Hope this helps and good luck!

We have a winner right here. You'd be smart to listen to him, there's nothing but good advice in all the posts I see from him.

Yeah it was a dead give away when he said Alpine typr R subwoofers provide plenty of power . Really? An amplifier provides power , not a subwoofer . And to My LT Won . Get to a show ?? Really , real shows are few and far between , unless your talking bout SPL , Bass race etc . Call me old school , but a real show is sound quality, where an average install took 300-400 man hours , not a unfinished wood box thrown into a vehicle . Mainstream brands like Alpine , Xtant , Zapco , JL , Pioneer Premier and MTX to name a few have always tailored more for SQ than SPL . So yeah , if your talking how friggin loud you can get , maybe mainstream isn't your best option . But I will always take sounding good over 150 + DB .

The only subs even worth buying are DigitalDesign. I'm buying 2 8" subs that can handle 1200 continuous watts EACH and max at 4800watts. Yes, an 8" sub that can handle 4800 watts. And DD always underates their subs. Seriously, I have a JL W6 and i will never go back to that chinese made bs.

I had JL audio before and didn't really like it. I took a chance and bought pioneer subs and have been hook since
my system includes:
Pioneer 7 inch doublde dash
Pioneer 250w 6.5 all around
1 760 amp 2 power my 2 pioneer 10"
with a Zen Box
In my teens I was looking for the ground 2 vibrate when playing my music. Grew up a little; now my system doesn't vibrate the car next to me but if turn up 3/4 to the max, after 5 mins you will start to gain a headache like my first day after install
Plan on adding a 4 way amp to power my speakers but I'm very happy with what I have now

I have a JL 500/1 amp pushing a 10w6v2. Quality is amazing! Find a cheap deal on craigslist. I got my setup for 300 in excellent condition and came with a 4 gauge monster wiring kit.
As for headunit, I also bought a kenwood touchscreen dvd/navi for 200 off this guy parting out his Z on craigslist also.

One Diamond Audio D6 12" or Two Diamond Audio tm3 D2 10"(these are low profile for a smaller box in the Z, I have these pushed by a DLS A6)
