What subs would yall go with?
What happened to the good old days when people actually drove down to the local stereo store and listened to different speakers , decks, and amps before buying ? Asking people what audio to buy is like asking a 350Z forum ,what car to buy . Just because I and many others like a certain speaker , does not mean you will . My advice to you is , drive to a few stereo stores and take a listen for yourself .

Because nowadays the local shop is only gonna carry jl,rf and alpine. Most times than not they never heard of any of the internet companies and if a person is new to audio they will listen to the owner down play them just to make a sale. Listening to a sub in a box on a shelf is in no way gonna compare to an in vehicle experience. Its a safe bet if a sub has glowing reviews if installed correctly will satisfy a buyer which it has done. If that was the case internet companies sundown, ssa, IA, AA and etc would never of existed with your logic. Just throwing a number out there but 80% of true audio enthusiast don't use mainstream and thats because of internet buzz. Members tend to trust the opinion of reliable members suggestions and thats one of the purposes of the site.
Because I used to Sell JL and Alpine.. and thats because I was tired of returns and warranty from other brands. If you know the history behind the Alps corp and the Luxman brand, its very easy to find out WHY Alpine costs twice as much as Kenwood or other lesser brands, youd buy it for life as well.
OP.. you mention "speakers".. are we talking subs? Mids?
Car audio is VERY subjective, everyone likes something different.
The first two replies to your thread are BOTH correct.
We can reccomend good brands for you that work well installed and last over time.. THEN...
you can go drive somewhere to listen to them yourself.. part a, part b.

Id certainly not say 80% of "audiophiles" use non name brand.. maybe 80% of IASCA SPL competitors do.. but Id say that judging from the size of the companies and revenues earned, the big ones are still.. well..the big ones. That gives you your real figure.
Alpine and JL and Boston Acoutsics or Focal FTW ... til I die.
Other stuff might be good, but with these companies, its ALWAYS a no brainer. Been in every car Ive ever owned , and my systems are always insanely good and the highest of their high end.

I've always been a fan of Kicker stuff...it's quality that wont break the bank. The CompVR 12" sub hits hard and does the job. The 10ZX700.5 amp I is nice too! It provides more than enough power for your whole system. You can have both for around $500 and have a decent system.
I think everything, like subwoofer, box, door speaker, headunit. I have a Kenwood 1000 watt amp so it should push the subwoofer I might get (don't have a clue which one i'll go with). But going to buy a 500 watt amp for my other car to replace the Kenwood for it.

I'm a DC Audio/Sundown/Digital Designs fan, and I will happily choose any of these companies lowest line of woofer over a mainstreams highest line.
I've listened to a lot of subs. It really depends on what you like.
You said JL or JBL - I feel you're limiting yourself. There are other better performing subs in the price range.
I like my IDMAX - I wouldn't trade it for any other sub - even more expensive ones. I've heard enough to know what I like though.
Eclipse subwoofers from Fujitsu10 were also really nice. You can pick them up cheap.
