[Question] about in-dash LCD installation.
Hello everyone!
I recently purchased an '03 Silver Touring Nissan 350Z 6-Speed. I used to drive around a '90 Toyota Supra. It looked ungodly, so I decided to buy something that looked better! This thing definitely has alot more power. So far I'm absolutely loving my 350Z. (They are comparatively Beauty and The Beast)!
I have only one small complaint about the car.. I am a huge music-enthusiast, and the '03 350Z doesn't have an in-dash auxiliary port! I had to purchase an aftermarket deck for my Supra, but I'm totally afraid to install one in such a beautiful 350Z. I'd like to get some professional work done. (I tried using a cassette desk, but the quality lacked).
Here is what I want. There are some obvious kinks, but I'd really appreciate some expert advice. I tried looking through the forums for similar posts, but nothing answered this exact question. (If I missed it - my apologies)!
I'd like to install a touch-screen COMPUTER in my dash. With front-facing USB and auxiliary port. This way, I'd be able to migrate my 80+ GB music collection to my 350Z, and play any song on a whim. However, what happens to the current audio controls? (The 6CD changer, volume controls, radio, etc). Is there any way I can use the OEM volume **** to control the computer's volume? There are so many kinks to my theory, that I'd first like to see if some people have some already-functional reccomendations.
THANKS EVERYONE!! Glad to be a 350Z owner!

USASpec has some options for adding an iPod "port" to the 350Z stereo systems.
A lot of people (myself included, now) have swapped out the stock stereo with touch screen stereo/navigation systems which include iPod connectivity. Getting the new stereo installed isn't too difficult if you have any ability to follow instructions, but the more complex systems can be more challenging to install, since not all of the signals are easily available from the stock radio harness. Making it more complex is the BOSE system with the need to activate/power the speaker-based amps of that system (basically you'll just need to wire up a 12V relay to feed power to those amps).
