On the wire harness that plugs into the back of your new radio and into the factory harness i think there are two different grounds, where did you ground them?

Shouldn't be the fuses. What type of aftermarket unit are you installing? First thing id do is recheck ALL your wiring harness connections and the big black male ended wire. (I know, sounds dirty).

DANGER Will Robinson!!!

Always Ground power wires - if I recall Red wire is for the key switch ignition power on off you DO NOT want to short back to the ignition switch! Highly NOT advised!

I just went through this installing my new HU. With the bose system the black wire in the larger white connector of the install kit is not ground at all. It is the shield for the signal cables going to the bose amp.

Stupid bose system.

I ended up connecting the black wire from the install kit and the black wire from the HU to a ground point that I found behind the triple gauges. I had to dremel out a little plastic and do some fishing to get to it.

OK I will be installing an after market harness metra brand with bose connections on a 2005 350zr. I dont want to burn any wires up so i am trying to figure out what went wrong here?

Are you telling me not to tie the black wires from the metra harness to the radio black wire?

where should the black wires go from the after market radio and where should the black wires go on the metra plugs?

black wire was dead nothing coming from it. you can be like other guy and run a -wire from the gauge to HU or run a wire from chassis( a piece metal in car) so from the metra leave alone and from the HU to gauge or matal
it worked for me ..
now trying to get the HU to fit ...

Question

Just talked to metra

He told me to ground using the larger plug to the HU.

On the smaller plug he said DO NOT use the amp ground!

Got the answer I was looking for I think

I've read some people do not hook up the grounds on the metra side?

How did it burn up a wire?

Another thing I ran into using an aftermarket HU with the bose is that my HU preamp outs are 2.5V. It wasn't a high enough voltage to properly drive the bose amp and I had half of the volume that I should have had. I ended up buying a PAC ROEMIS2 and connecting to the speaker outputs of the HU to get the volume back. I had to turn the pots on the PAC all the way up. Some HUs have 4V preamp outs. I've read here that 4 volts is enough.

And another thing. The bose audiopilot will drive you nuts if you don't turn it off. Here's the fun part. To turn audiopilot off you need to supply about 7V to the yellow with red stripe wire in connector M39. 0V on this wire turns on the audiopilot. Stupid bose. The yellow/red wire is in one of the connectors that the kit does not address.

I bought a 1/4 watt 10k ohm resistor from Radio Shack (pn 271-1335) to solve this problem. I cut the yellow/red wire away from the M39 connector and spliced in the resistor this way: Red wire -> resistor -> yellow/red wire leading to the bose amp. Problem solved. This supplies appx. 7V to the yellow/red anytime the key is on.

And another thing. The amplifier ground of the kit is actually the shield of the rear preamp signal wires to the bose amp. You're going to want to ground that.

One more - you want to connect the blue/white amp turn-on wire to the HU as this turns the bose amp on.
