Owners Disconnecting Rear Speakers
Answering the OP’s question…
I do not think most people physically disconnect the rear speakers, but instead turn the fader to the fronts.
The probable reason people turn down the rear speakers is their horrible sound quality (both the Clarions and the Bose speakers).
I swapped the stock rear Clarion speakers for a couple of moderately priced Infinity coaxials. The Infinity speakers provide decent sound, but I do have them turned down; favoring and preferring a strong front stage.

When I said music sounds like chit in different surround modes , I was referring to regular audio Cd's , you were the one that mentioned SACD audio . Of coarse it will sound good in surround modes , it is recorded that way . SACD is capable of encoding recorded audio in either stereophonic sound or surround sound .
