I want a CD Changer and an AUX in. Best way to get this?
I have a relatively new to me 2004 350z which has this very, very tacky and flashy 1-DIN radio that totally sucks. The controls are completely stupid, and combined with the Bose speakers, it sounds terrible. Horrible. It's a Kenwood or something.
I'm not sure if the guy only replaced the radio, or if he replaced anything else. I know the speaker behind the seat has a Bose logo on it, and none of the others do, but they all match the stock interior very well so I assume they are stock.
What I want to end up with is something that sounds fairly good and has a CD Changer and a AUX in jack. I'm thinking the easiest way to do this would be to just buy a used stock Bose head unit and mod it to have a aux in. I've seen the sticky about altering the tape player, but the pictures have been taken down from where ever he linked to, and attempting something like that with out looking at pictures would be stupid. Are there any other guides on how to do this/ back ups of those pictures?
While searching I found lots of people recommending the PAC AAI-NIS and the PAC AAI-NIS2. They are now discontinued and I can't find one for sale anywhere, not even eBay. Are there any replacements for these that would work? or is there anyway to hunt down a used one? I would like to not trash the tape player, but I will if I have to.
Also is there any chance the guy replaced some internals in addition to the radio? I'm thinking it may have been more than just that considering how much the sound sucks. How would I tell if he had, since I have no idea what the stock stuff looks like?

Why not just buy a new head unit... The old bose units and other stock units are boring and for lack of a better word dated. If you have all the specifications as you mentioned above that you are looking for just find a company that makes a head unit that suits your needs. I think you will find that down the road you will be happier with an aftermarket system instead of a modified stock version... Who wants a tape player anyways?

The Bose one may be boring and look a little bit dated, but it matches the rest of the car and isn't tacky, which I consider to be much, much worse. Also the Bose stereos are quite cheap now. And though it may not sound fantastic, I'll know it will at least sound pretty good.
The current head unit works very poorly with the Bose speakers and it sounds like the music is coming all from behind you, but I moved the sound to only the front, and those speakers are on, just quieter. Considering that some head units sound bad with the stock speakers, and I can't even find a single head unit with a cd changer, the odds of finding a non tacky, 6cd changer with aux in, that works well with the Bose speakers seems like zero.
So unless you guys know of one that meets all of that, what is currently the best way to to add an Aux in to the Bose stereo?
whats a cd ?
lol seriously cd's are being phased out

What do you want to use an AUX input for? There are IPod specific adapters that don't use 3.5mm jacks (USASPEC made one). I heard some of them cut the volume in half though, so be wary of those.
R350z is right. Im the team lead over at Best Buy for Car audio. We're seeing a lot of units without cd players let alone 6 discs. you have 2 options at this point. A) Buy the iSimple kit which gives you a AUX in through a wired FM modulator. Or B) save some cash and buy a bitchin double din unit that has USB, AUX, BLUETOOTH, DVD PLAYER etc. all built in

That ebay one is incredibly overpriced. Check craigslist. There are clean ones for 50 bucks if thats what you really want (or the classifieds forums on here for that matter). I agree with all these other guys though, the less spinning media the better.
To add an AUX and an iPod cable too (both), you can pay a PA15-NIS from USA-Spec. I've used one for the past year and I have no complaints. It costs about $100 on some websites, and install is easy and takes about an hour or two.
