Default Sub/amp install help

Quick questions
05z Stock Bose w a pioneer f90bt using the metra harness:
I'm installing aftermarket an aftermarket amp(jl 500/1 mono v1)) and 2 12 subs( mtx thunder600)
Am I just going to pull out the stock amp and sub and be able to plug the RCAs from the amp to my HU? The harness if I remember has sets of RCA inputs for the front and rear speakers. Subs n audio vid. Pretty sure this is how.

Next how should I wire the amp to the subs? I do understand the difference in series and parallel. I was told do parallel (subs are 4ohm) so that's -to- and +to+. All the diagrams shown have 1 neg and 1 posting wire coming out of the sub and going into the amp. Thing is on the amp there is spots for 2 + wires and 2 negative wires? I bought the amp used was told its a mono v1 and the speaker input says mono out put only. Or am I just supposed to run 1 sub to one set of pos and neg inputs and 1 sub to the other?

Next there is RCA I inputs that say preamp output section and amplifier input section- which do I use for this set up

Thanks in advance
Lastly anyone know how to set up all the other stuff in the back or the amp?

bjjbadboy, first you will have to run a set of RCA cables from the HU to the amp, the factory amp does not have RCA end terminals on them they run directly into the amp. second i would run your speakers in series ( + of amp to + of speaker, - of speaker to + of second speaker and - of second speaker to - of amp) with the amp in mono mode. this will keep your 4ohm load. it wont be as much power as going in parallel but your amp will run much cooler and have a longer life. and third the RCA inputs on your amp should come from the HU. the outputon the amp is for when you run more than one amp you can use the out to another amp without having to run another set of RCA's to the HU. i recomend leaving the stock boes amp for the sound stage. and adding a set of RCA's to your new sub amp. untill you get another amp and better sound speakers.

Thanks for the reply. Yea I know the stock amp doesn't have RCAs coming out of it and just plugs into the harness of my aftermark hu.

What I wasn't aware was that the stock Bose amp powers the interior speakers as well? How come when I had the bass cut out problem(before fixing that amp) only the bass cut out of the sub the interior speakers all still worked. I guess it doesn't really matter to leave it in or not.

Good call on running them in a series to keep it at 4ohm. I'm. Not looking to get crazy loud bass just wanted to fiberglass my trunk. What about the fact that the amp has 2 + inputs and 2 - inputs?? Just use 1 and 1? What's the other for if it is a mono amp? Bridging 2 amps?

Lastly just to make sure I'm plugging the RCA into the amp input? The preamp output is used when bridging 2 amps?

Thanks again. I'm great and fiberglass and building interior trying to build up my audio chops. Did about as much research I could now need to make sure.

I think the best way for me to help is to send you to the following site. Click on the "support" link below the pic of the amp to download the PDF manual. That will help with other questions. In any case, you use those RCA connections to the right looking at the pic from the back of the unit. Let me know if you still need help after that

Thanks for the replys. Everything is pretty much in was very easy to run the wires for this car.

Only question:
Does the Bose amp do anything but power the sub?

Can I tap into the amp turn on wire that is coming out of the HU and connected to the factory amp? I would do this if the amp does power the interior speakers
If the amp does nothing now I'll just pull it out then cut the amp turn on wire and rewire it to my new legit amp? Correct?

Thanks again in advance. I'm stoked to see how my first big fiberglass build came out. Was a ***** building under the strut tower and behind it. I made the subs separate from the amp rack so Everythjng can essentially be removed

Thanks again

And yes wiring the subs to the amp in series to give in the 4ohm load. Rather it this way anyway I'm an sq guy did this mostly for the looks. If for sound would have put a 10" where the stock sub was

Let me try and understand what you have. Basically you only have 1 Amp to power the subs but none for the speakers. Let me give you a litttle advise here. Since you have changed the Headunit, why not get the most out of your install and get rid of the Bose amp completely?. The Bose amp also powers the interior speakers. The entire Bose system in th Z is not the best (I do not want to use the word garbage so as not to offend some). I had it before so I know what I am talking about
Just get youself a 4 channel amp like JL 300/4 to power your speakers. If you still want to keep the Bose speakers, the best way to interface the amp with your aftermarket HU is to use the PAC ROEM-NIS2 harness.

Yea this Bose is garbaged deff not worth it. I will be changing the interior speakers in the future. This is just a for now question about how to connect the amp turn on to the HU can I tap the amp turn on wire that's going to the Bose amp? When get an after market amp for the interior speakers do both amps get turned on by the one wire coming out of the hu

I will first address the second question. Yes you split the amp turn-on signal from the HU into 3 actually. 2 will go to the 2 amps (aftermarkets) and one to the antenna booster because when you install a new HU with new amps , the antenna booster loses power. You need that otherwise your reception will take a hit in quality. I learned the hard way.
If you are keeping the Bose Amp for now, yes you can tap into the amp-turn-on going to the Bose amp. That will ensure your amp turns on when the HU is on and loses power when the HU is off
Now, the amp-turn-on does not actually give power to your amps. It is only a signal to cause the amp(s) to turn on. You have to run actual power and ground to the amp. Positive from the batery compartment and ground from the chassis. I assume you know that already but i am just mentioning just in case

Thanks totally thought so bc it's just a turn on. Yep already ran the power n ground. I Remember reading somewhere about someone trying to tap a 12v wire someplace to use as a 12v power source and they were told not to. I was just making sure not the same w this.

What do I need to do w my power ant wire now? Should I do it now w just the one amp in the trunk?
Thanks again

Ps what's a good spot to mount the fuse from the battery?

I did dump my Bose entirely so the cubby behind the drivers seat where the Bose amp used to be is where I have all my fuses. I uses a 0 gauge wire from the battery to a distribution block in that location. Then spilt the wire to 2 4-gauge wires to my amps
Some store the fuses in the compartment behind the passenger seat. Obviously
you have the main fuse at the battery location right?
I am not clear about the power antenna question

Hey thanks again. Once I'm ready to upgrade the interior speakers thats a great spot for a distribution block.

I was talking about the 80amp Fuse by the battery. Lol I zip tied it near the battery then have another wire hooked to the battery w a 30amp fuse to bring a direct 12v wire to power up some lights and what not until I fully upgrade.

Ended up painting the rear strut covet before putting everything in. Tested the amp n it powers up. Once the clear cost is dry gonna wet sand everything w 2000 polish and wax then good to go. Thanks for the help

Hey also I was gonna through my old exbox in that's jail broke tons of music movies n gMes. My HU has an audio video hook up but the iPod adaptor uses them. I'm sure I can pull the video cable from the iPod since I nvr use the video on it. Then xbox has no sound, or is there an adaptor?

Thanks again
