Lol, yeah these Rockfords are Busch league compared to the JBL's. Good call on the sound deadener mats. I had overlooked that. I guess I will see how this install goes and if I'm not happy with the sound I will give them back. Actually, $175 isn't bad shipped. Sucks being on a budget or I would go ***** out. Not trying to blow the hatch off or anything but sound quality...yeah!

I just pulled the trigger on a $175 deal on ebay, lol. RAMM MAT on the way also.

Yeah I plan to do the complete install myself. I installed a cheap (chinese) touchscreen HU a year ago and replace the rear speakers because they were just rubbish (32Ohm speakers who does that?). I have been really unhappy with the HU because of static and very poor radio reception compared to the stock stereo. Screen is pretty but sound quality is pathetic.

This thing should sound tip top once its finished. I appreciate the good info and suggestions.

I have a question if you wouldn't mind answering. I know the stock Bose HU isn't all that great, but I wasn't looking to upgrade just yet. I upgraded the back speakers recently and was looking at your post. I was just wondering how you think these speakers would sound running off the stock HU for now. Thank you in advance.

not sure how much power the stock headunit puts out. I didn't have the bose system. I know it was made by Clarion. It also depends ALOT on the speakers you put in. Many quality aftermarket speakers require more power to play well. You upgraded the back speakers only? not the fronts?

from my understanding, trying to use aftermarket speakers with the BOSE headunit opens up many cans of worms, as I believe the bose system has its own amplifiers, and the bose speakers run some odd impedance.

Do a search, I'm sure there are threads on this forum addressing this topic.

BTW, why would u want to keep the stock headunit? on mine, there wasn't even a simple AUX jack, so I couldn't even use the tunes on my Ipod/Iphone.

I tend to do things backwards if it makes sense. I actually had purchased a set of front and rears but the front set never came in so I did more research and landed on your recommendation and am about to pull the trigger on this set.

I knew going into upgrading the rear speakers that I wanted more clarity coming from the rear because it sounded muffled.

To answer the question about the head unit, I am VERY VERY cautious in what I spend my money on and I do tons of research. I believe I have come down to the Pioneer DA-100 simply because I can mirror my android to it. Have any suggestions? I saw which headunit you are running. Enjoying it?

So are you planning on the JBL's in this thread for your front components?

Actually I just finished ordering them off ebay as we speak. Getting the zenclosures tonight also and I noticed you said you recommended sound deadening in the front. How much did you get if you don't mind me asking, I am ordering all of it tonight.

About this HU you are looking at. I just installed the Pioneer SPH-DA100 AppRadio2 combined with these JBL's and a Polk sub. The interface is very basic but with decent equilizer and the sound engine seems to be very nice and on par with Pioneer's other HU's. But I am using ARLiberator to mirror my andoid and without doing this this HU is a 3.5 out of 5 just like the reviews give it. With the android mirroring i give it a 5 out of 5. But be ready to have a hard time getting your phone to mirror. It took me a while to troubleshoot and everyone's phone is different because of the "rooted setup" you might have. Just a head's up.

Nice setup. I also ran my adroid mhl/hdmi cable to the storage spot. How well does your microphone work in there? I like that spot, right now mine is mounted up by the horizontal gage cluster and it looks ok but I would rather it be hidder.

I'm also curious what you used to attach the mic. Double sided tape or something? 3M makes a poster sticking tab that leaves no residue but it doesn't really like the console surface.

Haha "Lexus quiet", I get that. It looks like the same exact mic that came with my Pioneer SPH-DA100 and I have to raise my voice also. But, hell I kinda had to do that anyway.

Back on the thread topic those JBL's are brilliant, man. I found myself driving around with no place to go last night just to listen to the new sound system.

Yes I did. I even made my own sub Box to the proper ft^3. But what a pain that was. Looks pretty good but, for the time and money I probably should have just bought a custom box. I made it intending to use that space behind where the factory sub was installed and totally thought I could fit the 10" in there. Failure, so I carpeted the box and put it in the hatch, lol.

Thanks for the review! I just purchased the ms-62c's for my front door and a pair of JL TR650-CXI for behind the seats. They will be running off my Avic x910 to begin with, so hopefullly the sound is still light years ahead of my non-bose paperweights...

They will.

I ran mine off my headunit only (14W RMS) for about a month before amping them.

When you take out your stock speakers, you will be shocked at how incredibly cheap, flimsy, and lightweight they are.

Mine were even cheaper than the ones somebody posted in the forum. I think the "magnets" were smaller than a quarter, lol!
