Installed the speakers and crossovers today, but was unfortunately unable to install the tweeters. I have no idea how to customize them in order to fit and do no have the time or patience. In addition, they are connected to my avic headunit and there is absolutely no bass.
The speakers sound distorted and extremely harsh whenever I try to turn the bass up, so apparently I need to order an amp sooner than I had planned
Please let me know how you installed the tweeters and it looks like I need to order an amp tonight.

That's really strange. I am running mine with just the HU and they sound amazing. But I have the bass at a moderate level since a 10" sub is taking care of the lower frequencies. Something isn't right there, but I can't say what. I modified the stock bracket and was able to mount the tweeters inside the stock cover. It took a bit of cutting/dremeling but I got them to fit.

As for the speaker, I have only tried it on one side of the door. I have had no time since the weekend to take it apart again. I am using the zenclosure mounts that do not sit flush with the door panel. I am a little upset about that, but I will see if the shop I take it to can sort that out. While there are small gaps in the fit, the driver's side has the same issue but does not sound distorted when bass is applied.
The doors have been deadened with Dynamat extreme directly behind the magnets and the interior panel is also covered with a layer, so that should not be the issue.
Once again, the speaker plays perfectly when a light amount of pressure is applied to the fiberglass piece surrounding so I suspect it may be loose. I will definitely no as soon as my amp gets here, which will be here at the latest on Monday. I have contacted the seller though and he told me to keep him updated and will work with me if the speaker is defective.

What DrinkUrJuice said.
You could have gotten unlucky and gotten a bad woofer, but before i dealt with the hassle of a return, I would double and triple check my connections and my install/ mount.
Did you deaden your doors?
When I first installed my components I developed a bad vibration/buzz after about a week on one side, I removed the door panel and saw that my crossover box, which had only been 3M tape mounted to door above the woofer, had gotten loose and was touching the top of the woofer mounting ring, making it vibrate badly. I screwed it securely to the door so it wouldn't happen again, no problems since.
As far as the tweets go, I dremeled out a hole in the stock location, until the JBL tweets fit snugly (friction fit, no adhesive needed, you can see the photo earlier in this thread). Just takes a little patience and about 15 minutes per side.

Might be wasting time as this is an old posting. Anyway, I bought 4 of these JBLs and have a few questions.
First off, I know most people here mentioned buying the MDF zenclosures but I was wondering if anyone had tried the plastic ones? I have worked with MDF in the past and it got wet and it was a nightmare. Anyway, the ones I have found appear to only be 3/4" thick and I am wondering if the speakers are going to clear ok since the zenclosures are 1" thick. Will these clear the window?
Also, do I need the rings in order to install these in the rear deck to replace the factory 6.5s?
Here is a link to the plastic types:

Also bought this amp and was curious if anyone had used it and if so what they thought of it?

Also I have 2 JL 10's in the rear gloveboxes. The previous owner took off the doors and there are some metal brackets that were silver that the previous owner colored in with a sharpy....I guess so they wouldn't stick out. Anyway, I imagine the doors either rattled and/or he wanted to hear them better and that is why he removed the doors. I was wondering if these would fit over both the rear gloveboxes and if anyone has used them with subs? Will they rattle?

Thanks for any help in advance!!!

^^^I don't have the JBLs so can't speak from experience, but we're only talking about 1/4 inch difference between the Zenclosures and the plastic ones, so you could make up that much difference with some spare pieces of the raammat if needed. So I wouldn't sweat it.

Thanks for getting back to me! I ended up taking a shot on the plastic version. I still have a few more pieces coming in before I can install. It is going to take a minute to install everything and my time is limited. Not sure what changing the rear speakers entail but seems to be a pain. I will probably pull the seats and carpet to run everything. Just bought the clarion 404 Hu and backup cam so have to install it as well. Bought a escort passport max that I am thinking of doing a direct wire on as well.
Thanks again for your help!
