Replacing Factory Bose HU question
Hey guys, I own a 2004 350Z touring with the Bose system with no Navi. Subwoofer behind the drivers seat setup. I would like to just replace the head unit with a newer updated player, nothing fancy once it plays mp3 cds.
My question is can I just replace the HU with a simple aftermarket one and just use all the Bose components (Speakers Sub) as it was with the stock HU?
Saw on Crutchfield: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KDC2...-KDC-248U.html
Comes with all the harness, is that all I need with no problems? I just want to replace the HU nothing else and have everything sounding just like it did stock.
Thanks

Hey I was looking at doing the same thing. Ended up using search for bose bypass and this link is the one I came up with. Looks like you may need the part •PAC ROEM-NIS2 (for Bose only), get a regular Metra wiring harness if you don’t have a Bose
$42.18. Hope that is the info you were looking for.

$30 on Amazon. Im definitely going the PAC route. Metra is tempting but if it doesnt work ill have to wait longer.
Would you be able to go into a little further detail on this? Thank you.
I have seen posts with guys using adapters to integrate aftermarket HU's with BOSE systems but I don't know how well that works. I feel that when you are dealing with resisters (speakers) and amps that are intended to supply power within a given range, you can't mix and match and get the performance the system deserves.
Hope that helps some.

I have an 04 with a Bose system and got a head unit from crutchfield and the harness they send allows you to use the Bose speakers. You will use the RCA inputs to connect all of the speakers which allows you to keep using the factory Bose amp and speakers. If you have any issues the crutchfield tech assistance is great. It's an easy install, they will send you printed out install instructions.
That's pretty cool. And I could see how that would work since the factory BOSE head unit emits a line out signal just like an RCA. I wonder how RCA output voltage differences from different HU's is handled by the adapter (2V, 4V, 8V)? It seems that depending on that, pre-amp volume control should be affected in some way.
I still can't think of a way to install 4-8 ohm aftermarket speakers to a BOSE amp. I still think the BOSE speakers, in most car systems, can't hold a candle to a well done aftermarket system in terms of sound quality.
