Anyone with experience w/ Kenwood eXcelon DNX9990HD
I'm looking to order a new HU and this one peaked my interest. There are so many DD HU out there, was just wondering if anyone had pro's and con's of this unit? Also if there is anything else out there that is a better selection? I really like the built in Garmin and the Pandora interface.
Thanks in advance

I've had experience with two Kenwood HUs (DNX7100 and DDX896). I really liked them both, but my only complaint is the touch screen responsiveness. After using smartphones for so long, touch screens on HUs suck by comparison. I don't have any experience with other HU brands, but I think everyone is using the same type of touch screen.

I just purchased the DNX9990HD and installed a couple of weeks ago. Very pleased with it so far. I previously had a DNX6980 in my truck, and the 9990 is MUCH faster and the response is night and day better. I got mine from the Crutchfield outlet for like 699 or something. If you watch the outlet daily you can probably pick one up for a similar price.
I am trying to think of a few cons, but honestly I don't have many. Maybe if you could adjust the home screen icons better? You can add three "larger ones" to the top, but I wish you could just rearrange the whole front. Have to use a dedicated Kenwood iPod cable which is kind of a pain, but definitely not a deal breaker by any means. This unit actually has two USB inputs which is very handy. Guess the biggest complaint I have is you can't send the Rear Camera input to the AV OUT. I have an additional screen in the cubby, so it would have been nice to have it sent to the AV OUT to that screen. Again, little things lol.
The new models look great, just more then I wanted to pay at this time.
If you have any specific questions just let me know!

Be sure to check the display in daylight
I have the Kenwood DPX503, and it is famous for having a dim, hard-to-read display. And the weird joystick/**** control thingy on the front panel is impossible to use reliably if the car's moving. It's as though they didn't test the product for usability before releasing it.
The HU you're looking at probably uses different display technology, but it probably won't hurt to check before buying. Maybe someone on the forum can educate us.

I have had Kenwoods going back to pull out tapedecks. I currently have the 9980 (predecessor to 9990) It is ok but Kenwood & Garmin offer virtually no support (No Nav firmware update since 2/12) and they blame each other. I won't be buying another Kenwood.
Also, if you have an iPhone 5 forget about video into this deck.
My 2 cents.
