Default Focal speakers

Hi all guys,

I am thinking about upgrading the speaker system on my 08 350z. I really like Focal brand so I want to ask you guy that what models of Focal is good? I need 2 speakers and 2 tweeters on doors, 2 speakers behind the seats, and an amplifier, and I only can spend around $1000 ).

Thanks all

I mounted the Focal 165 V Slim (depth from wall: 56mm (2.2")) in the stock door position. The sound is absolutely great. I’m uncertain which comparable Focal model is available now; Focals are great sounding speakers.

Because your budget is tight, you might consider replacing only the front door components, and disconnecting the cheap OEM rear speakers.

Of course you will want an external amp to drive high quality speakers (as the Focals). You don’t need to spend a lot on the amps

Thanks Spike. Do you think I need to replace all speakers' wires?

I have the PS165's. They sound great but some times the tweeter gets a little harsh. If I was going to buy Focals again I would buy some of the higher end ones.

If you want crazy good sound and can move away from focals,
Get these: http://store.12velectronics.com/imag...l-speaker-set/
Put them in these: http://wickedcas.com/product.php?pro...&cat=27&page=1
Powered by something like this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...PAD2000.2.html

And throw away your rear speakers like Spike said.

Edit: you don't HAVE to run new speaker wire. When I first did my speakers I ran new wires up to the doors, but spliced the old ones so I didn't have to run them through the molex. Made it much easier and never had a problem with a 120watt RMS (per side) amp. If you have the patience its a much better idea to run new wires all the way though.

As Collin Lacy states, you don’t need to run new wiring. I left the factory wiring in place and get excellent sound from the Focals. --Spike

Just curious… Where did you mount your Focal tweeters?

I had focals in my first Z but as of yet don't have a system in my Nismo... and it's killing me lol. THe Focals were awesome but expensive. Collin Lacy, with those door pods, do you have issure with leg room clearance and getting in and out of the car?

I have the PS165's, and while I'm completely satisfied with them, I would HIGHLY recommend getting either door pods or kick pods. I'm getting ready to buy a pair of door pods for mine because there is no way to get rid of the rattles in the door without them, and it ruins the sound quality of the speaker immensely.

Focal is a great line...

If you could check out the HERTZ AUDIO LINE..
I can run you a package deal with our door pods and a pair of components.
I will guarantee you the sound.

How's leg clearance with the door pods. Also how much were the K2's?

Yes... Your door pods provide a significant improvement in the sound.

door pods are great. Kick panels are even better. As far as leg room, you just need time
to get used to it. There will be times when you would kick them. Main problem i had with door pods was passengers. They are more likely to bump them. A little screem and warning helps

Could you expand upon how the kick panels are better? Have you had both? And could you provide a link to some examples? Thanks!

Best set up would be having Kick panels for 5.25" and tweeter and our door pods for mid-bass....

But I guarantee our door pods to make your speakers (any brand) sound twice as good with more mid-bass... Vs stock location.

I have have Infinitty kappa Perfect components in the front. i started out with the stock location with tweeters in the stock location as well.
They sounded better than my Bose. Then I followed the directions in threads by SimplicityInSounds (a member here too) and made pretty good door pods.
The difference was very very significant. ( Anyway my doors are very well sound deadened). I liked them but out of curiosity and also something to keep me busy, I made kick panels also by following every step as laid out by his other threads. Now I am done and they are not going anywhere. The difference between door pods and Kicks is not as big as the difference between Door pods and stock location. If done well (example from NAZAR) they will be very clode to Kicks but i must say kicks in my oppinion are better
I have the tweeters in the A-Pillar now. Let me add that NAZAR has proven quality pods. Actually I was going to buy from him but i found out my Infinnitys would not quite fit.
