I just bought a radar detector (Escort 9500ix). Of course we all know the factory lighter outlet is really sorry for anything that mounts in the dash. Either way, I want a more sleek look without wires hanging anyway.

I want to wire it into a source under the dash that is hot ONLY when the key is on. I don't want to just go sticking wires to find out and figure somebody here has done this and can tell me the perfect wire and location for it.

Also, I have seen the mounts at BlendMount.com and have considered one of them...but they're a bit pricey. I'm not sure I want to mount it there. Any feedback or opinions on mount location is welcome.

I saw the wiring setups at Mirrortap.com which is what I would get if I did an install just below the mirror...in which case I wouldn't need to find a place to wire it in under the dash.

Right now, I have the detector on my left, up high...and kinda like it there because it's not in the middle of the car, but off to the side.
