For those who put Dynamat in their doors
I have a pair of JL XR components in my doors, but as you know our door really sucks to get good SQ because the speakers can only be mounted in the inside frame and the grill is covering about 25% of the speaker.
What I did to elimainate road noise and rattles is dynamat the door in the inside frame holding the speaker as well the inside of the outside door frame housing the grill.
My question is if dynamtting the outside will detoriate the sound quality or block off the soundwaves from traveling, the reason I ask is since the speaker sits within the door frame it's soundwaves is traveling around the area betweenthe 2. Will the Dynamat plastered within the outside frame blockoff and prevent the soundwaves to travel out to the listener? How did you guys dynamat the doors? Thanks.

I dyanamatted all door skins at least some to reduce down panel vibrations. I also closed in the area around the speaker and drilled out every undrilled hole on the cover (goes quick with a small drill press). Just opening up all the holes and using egg crating to block off between the plastic door panel and door itself helped tremendously!
So you did dynamat both sides of the doors?
Howdid you close off the area of the speaker, did you make a kind of funnel surrounding the speaker to the outside door frame?
In interested in your idea please elaborate.

Sorry about the late reply but I only check this board occasionally.
I'm not sure I stated it properly but I placed egg crating in between the aluminum door skin and hte plastic door panel, around the speaker area. I got this idea from Leif Blackmon of Boston Actoustics and it helped greatly. If you install your doorpanel with the speaker grill off, you'll see a big opening above the speaker. Keep in mind I also relocated my speakers upward and foward slightly to avoid hitting the plastic door panel common when using the stock speaker mounts.
I don't have any pictures and I took my car apart again to change some things in the stereo - lol - it's a never ending trial to get it sounding better.
As far as the dynamat goes, I did both skins on the steel door and aluminum door panel as well as small vibration peices across the inside of the stock plastic door panel. I used about 2 sheets of dnyamat extreme per door.

Make sure you get the grease streak TSB done first, if you have that problem...my dealership charged me $74 to take off my dynamat, then they never put it back on and just reassemblked the door... now i have to get another roll and redo both doors.
