Smile Used radio does not go beyond SECURE message

hi all,
I hope someone can help me. I have a 350Z and replaced the aftermarket radio with a used original Bose unit with 6CD changer (I like ex factory look). Unfortunately the radio will not work as all that happens is a message WAIT appears, followed by SECURE. Did some researching and found that it needs to be unlocked. Used both paid services to get the code and via the Nissan Dealer. Both actually gave me the same 4 digit code so I guess the code is correct. Problem is that I cannot manage to enter it successfully. Instructions are to use the numbers 1-4 out of the CD buttons, but somehow nothing happens (e.g. SECURE message does not go away).
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks a million in advance,
Roberto

From what I've read about the factory Bose systems, the head unit and possibly other components like the Amp are locked to the VIN or ECU of the original vehicle. There is some kind of separation/divorce procedure that needs to be done to unpair the headunit from the original vehicle before it can be paired to another. I never owned a Bose equipped Z33 myself, so I don't know if the "SECURE" message means your radio is in lockout mode. Others have reported a display message saying "CODE IN" after loss of power (battery disconnected).

As for the unlock combination, you finish by hitting the FFWD button. But there could be more to it.

To be clear, I got much of this info from the UK 350Z forums. So it's possible this information does not apply to the North America market Bose Systems. I have also read conflicting posts stating that 350Zs in the US with Bose stereos don't have a security code or unlock PIN. Maybe it's specific to the production year?

As you say, there's not much documentation available. If you have your original owners manual, there's usually instructions on how to enter in the security code after power loss.
Wish I knew more, but I'm a believer in a quality aftermarket solution vs. going back to original.
Cheers!
