Use the factory radio metal mounts as you described and a double din dash kit.
On the dash kit you will only need the double din face plate it will hook to the metal mounts. It looks real clean when done. If you like I can post a pic on mine

Yes you can do everything with the stock supplies, the trick is in the installation of the mount.

You can set it a little further down and back than what is "directed" you do have to make your own custom holes, but that will make it fit better.

So far mine is one of the best installs I've seen, and everyon that has seen it thinks it's a custom fitment kit.

You can make it nicer if you go with a custom hand made job, but for the slight improvement it will give you, it hasn't been necessary in my mind, or at the shop at Mobile Connection in San Fernando.

Not the worst thing in the world, you can get replacement parts from Kenwood..... Also I am looking at upgrading mine to the newer version, maybe If I make arrangement for that in the next few days, you can use my parts?

To tell you the truth, I don't know.... what I will do is call my shop and ask and see if I can get answer about that.

I have a feeling the answer is no.... I don't think you need that parts that came with the stock stereo....

I see what you mean if you are planning on a full blown audio system, but for replacing stock it sounds good to me. I want it for my daughter.

I will be doing some work on the audio system and appearance by the end of this month.

Replacing the head unit with the next model, more screen, less buttons, plus FULL BLUETOOTH control of my phone(s)!

Carbon Fiber "beauty plate" for the rear deck.

Umm.....
