Question Where to install crossovers?

So, almost every install I see has the crossovers for components mounted to the doors. Any good reason for this? It seams like they'd be exposed to more vibration, moisture, etc. I was going to mount mine by my amps; any reason not to?

If you mount it near your amp, then you have to run 4 wires back to the speaker and tweeter. Also you add unwanted inductances and capacitances (due to the extra wire after the crossover), this may affects your sound quality. I bought the extra strenght two-sided tapes (red color) from Home depot and used it to mount the crossover in the door. So far it is OK.

i was told that it is better to mount the cross overs closer to the speakers so there is less wire running between the cross over and the speaker, decreasing the chance for any unwanted interference that can decrease sound quality. However I was told this after i had mounted my cross overs in the "secret compartment" of the glove box. I haven't noticed anything negative about the sound quality so I think as long as you dont mind running the extra wires into the doors and you use quality wire you shouldn't have problems mounting them farther from the speakers.

I once heard that you should try to keep the wires coming out of the crossover the exact same length. Any truth to that?
