Default for those who have subs in spare tire compartment

does anyone know a decent estimate of the airspace that can be utilized if i fiberglass the spare tire location and have the subs facing up level with the rest of the floor? I've seen a couple installs like this so i thought maybe someone would have tried to figure this out already.

Also what would be the benefits of having my subs facing up here as opposed to facing up in the area between the rear seats and the rear strut bar (where i currently have them - sub box is too small though so i have to make something new)?

thanks!

I currently have my subs facing up in the area between the seats and the strut bar. They sound OK, but I mostly listen to rap and the SPL I had expected is definetly NOT there. Also, any little mechanical noise (or even the slightest clip) is VERY notcieable with the subs in this location. I am going to play around with some new sub positions this weekend...if you find anything lemme know and I'll do the same.

I was thinking of moving my subs for the exact reasons you mentioned. I also listen to mostly rap in my car and the bass just isn't as loud as i thought it would be (considering the subs are like a foot from my head). Plus the mechanical noise makes me want to turn the gain down even more so I wont have to hear that.

I think putting the subs in the spare tire well would be the best bet because the subs would still be facing up towards the glass to reflect foward into the cabin and I expect less mechanical noise to be heard from there.

Let me know how your testing of sub positions goes.
