Default DVD on Stock Nav?

Anyone done this before to theirs? Have DVD playback capability on the stock nav unit? There's gotta be a chip or a hack or something.. somewhere..

Since the search is down, I'll answer this question but this thing has been drilled to death. I have converted my stock-Nav to play DVDs. The way I did this was to install a separate DVD player, a RGB converter (Nav-TV), FM Modulator (for DVD sound through an FM channel) and 2 switches (1 for audio to DVD and 1 for switching between Nav and DVD). Total cost was around $1500 only because I bought a high-end DVD player.

This can of course be done for cheaper if you get a cheap $200 DVD player (instead of the $1000 I paid for mine). But there is no simple/cheap hack to doing this. Another bonus is you can plug in an external component (i.e. playstation/xbox/etc..) to the DVD player with the additional DVD player. You of course cannot do this with your stock DVD player.

Also, I have to mention this since I've already done the mod, but it really is not worth it unless you spend tons of time in your car while not moving. That is, you think it might be cool to have a movie playing while you are driving, but it really is a distraction and you will always be worried about the police looking into your car. And it aint that hard to see whats playing on our car because our car sits so low compared to other cars. All in all, I wish I never got the Nav option ($2000) and just pursued the aftermarket route, but don't make the same mistake I made unless you spend plenty of time sitting in your car (i.e. waiting for your girlfriend/kids/or you eat lunch in your car).

peterhong - why did you have to install an FM modulator for sound....is the DVD player not your main audio (ie headunit)? Also, how is the picture quality of the stock Nav display?

plan_z, no i kept everything stock (including headunit). the picture quality on the stock nav display is actually pretty good. I mean its not hdtv or anything, but it looks pretty good considering it is using the stock screen.
