Default focal opinions and q's?

Ok i ditched the mb quarts and Boston's that i was planning on buying. Mb quarts tweets were a little too harsh.

I've decided on Focal's 165 KP (nomimal power 80W) for the front and 165 CV (nominal power 70W)for the rears all powered by a JL audio 300/4 (75W x 4 RMS). I figured that these speakers are best matched witht the ratings of this amp.

I was wondering if anyone knows the impedance of these speakers. Also how do you guys think it will sound? You think the 165 K2P's are worth the extra cash, even though thier nominal power is rated at 100W? (I'm kinda stuck on the 300/4 because I'm getting a great deal on it)

thanx

On the focal website i found that the nominal impedance of the woofer in the component set is 4 ohms but the tweeter is 8 ohms. Wtf???? What i want to know is at what impedance should the amp be set to run at?

impedence should be at 4 ohms...the crossover should be handleing the tweeters. Im running the Focal 163W3 or 165W3 forgot the name of the model Utopia's and love them.

That could be two possible explanations.

1 - the passive crossover makes up for this difference by design, your total load wll be 4 ohm (unless focal states it to be 6 ohm, which is possible)

2 - the 8 ohm impedance allows slighty lower output, making the tweeter less "bright"

As for the quart being harsh, thats common. The Q line is very smooth though, worth every penny. Lots of good choices, pick the one you like best.

I think that the overall impedence is 4ohms after doing some research. Thanx for the input guys.

I figured that since i was only going to be running 75 watts to each speaker, I wouldn't be gettin the full potential out of the pro series or Z6's, which can run up to like 200 and 400 watts or something. I just thought it would be over kill. The bostons sound great though. If I was willing to buy a bigger amp and spend some extra cash on the speaker, i would have gone with the bostons.

I feel that the focals will sound great and are well suited for my application.

I have been looking at the Bostons myself. Is 75 watts to those going to be underpowered? How much cheaper are those focals?
