Default not so happy with my 3rd set of front components......(MBQUART)

Ok so ive had a system in the z since september. I started out with polk db components which where the $200 retail ones, but since i worked at circuit city it only cost me $100. Anyways these sounded good and I consider myself an audiophile who liked highs A LOT and doesnt care much for the bass or even that much midbass from a comoponent set. These sounded good but I like to play my music loud most of the time, and about 5 weeks ago i started noticing that after playing it loud for a little while the speakers would start to drop tone A LOT to like a deep sound, like the crossover couldnt handle it anymore. I assumed that the crossovers were kinda shot because I have a JL audio 300/2 amp powering them and the gain only up half the way and i replaced it eventually to be sure but the problem kept occuring. So anyways a week ago me and jtree007 installed the MBQuart RCE216 components in my car and also changed out the head unit to a alpine 9835. I noticed that the midbass was a lot more strong from these mbquart speakers but the highs werent as high (i guess these speakers arent as bright), and after tuning my head unit and amp to try to find that sweet spot for these speakers I can't get them to have the sound I'm looking for. Certain songs sound almost distorted because the highs just seem muffled, and I know that the speakers are fine, but Joe warned me these arent as bright as my previous speakers, but i bought them based on the fact the MBQuarts have that tweeter protection buildt into the xover so that even playing at loud levels will only light up a fuse ands not blow anything.

ANYWAYS, since I am still not happy with the speakers after a week trial I need something with GREAT HIGHS and something that can handle being played at loud levels most of the time. I am looking into the infinity perfect components and will prolly buy them. How are the highs on these and are they a brighter speaker than the mbquarts. I expect many people to say "go for focals", but truthfully i dont feel like spending $400-500 if i dont have to. THrough checking out pricing i can get the perfect components for $200.,.....ADVICE WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED!

Is there not some jumper setting on the crossovers for the MBQuarts that will allow you to adjust the high frequency output?

I have the MB Quart Premium's and they seem pretty bright to me. In fact, the high's are very crisp and clean. I wish you were closer so you could hear them.

Try the Q-lines. Those things are godly status to me. I've only been hesitant to install on my G since I don't want to tear open the entire car for the amp installation as well. Those things are BRIGHT.

The perfects tweeters are pretty bright. In fact i set the tweeters at -3db to fit my liking.

If you listen to highs loud for awhile they will tend to drop out after awhile. This is usually because you are damaging your hearing. Be careful.

If you want to have a brighter sound don't go crazy boosting the high frequencies.. instead drop the mids about 2-4 db and this will do the same thing without breaking up or getting harsh at louder volumes. The louder you listen the less bass you will probably want as well.

just a suggestion.

Yea the upper model Quarts must be brighter...I have the PCE216 set and it is crisp, clear, bright, and loud. A lot cheaper than the Q-line also.

Just so you know you can get focals online for a little over 200...

And they’re not their bottom of the line stuff either. Just thought I would throw that out...

so im gonna sell my RCE216 components and buy either the infinity perfect components or the focals...even tho most people say the focals are better i think i want the highs from the perfects...ALSO are the 165V2's the really good focals to get, and are they polyglass or polykevlar, what is the difference???

Polykev is a little better speaker. Maybe you could find a local shop and go listen to a pair to help make your mind up? you can find a local dealer through their website....

well after tuning the head unit's EQ settings some more i actually think i got the sound i want out of these things. I guess ill keep em they sound nice now. ANyways im curious if its ok if the fuse that lights up on the crossover lights up often....like tonight i listened to some music pretty loud like usual, but not to a deafening or distorting point and i could actually see the fuse light up my speaker grilll when it hit the highs....pretty funny....
