Aftermarket Audio Options
I just purchased a 2004 350Z Roadster Enthusiast. (Didn't want the leather seats.) I want to upgrade the radio/audio system.
I have visited several aftermarket audio shops. At a minimum, I am looking to replace the radio, add a sub-woofer behind the driver's seat, and add a 4 channel amplifier to driver the sub-woofer and existing speakers.
My first question is, will this be minimally sufficient or will I regret not replacing the 4 existing speakers?
Second, I am looking for feedback on Alpine vs. Pioneer radios. these seem to be the most commonly recommended alternatives.
This is the first time I have looked at replacing a factory installed system, but I knew going in that this system has to go.
This is also my first post on this forum. I look forward to your feedback!

after getting my z, i waited about 2 weeks then gutted my stock system and put in a custom one, i replaced all speakers and added 2 subs and a custom sub box!
and if u go with subs and and amps you definetly want to upgrade your speakers, the stock speakers cant handle much power!

I have a pioneer AVIC-N1 that I just had put in about 2 weeks ago. Originally, I planned on replacing everything, but after hearing it with the stock speakers, I don`t even think I`m going to bother. I think it sounds great.
Yes the AVIC is pioneer`s top unit, but I don`t really consider myself a hardcore audiofile. I don`t really have a desire to be heard 5 blocks away :-) It`s plenty loud and clear enough for me.
I bought it more for the navigation and DVD than anything else.

r.j., i plan on getting the one below that model (too lazy to look up model), did you have to put in an amp? if you're saying you are happy with the sound, i trust your judgment, i might reconsider as well.

The highest I put the volume is at 23, Which is loud enough that you could`nt have a conversation with someone in the car, and it is still very clear.
I`ve spoken to a guy on the Canadian 350 site, and he had the AVIC put in his car, as well as new speakers, so I want to see at the next meet if it sounds any better.
But like I said earlier, I`m totally happy with the way it sounds now.
