need help capacitor question
I ran a search but i couldnt find the answer. Here are the amps I am running:
jl 450 x4
jl 1000x1
jl 500x1 (installing this week)
I am currently using an optima battery and no capacitors. My question is this, if i did use a capacitor should i hook it in before teh power distribution block. (there is 1 cable coming from teh battery, it goes into a block and then splits into 3 cables coming out). Or should I use 1 capacitor before the 1000x1 and 1 capacitor before teh 500x1.
thanks
andy

You can do the caps like you suggest, or have a two farad cap that feeds both your 1000/1 and your 500/1. Just make sure the cap is close to your amps.

By the way, I love my JL Amps as well! I only have a 1 Farad cap in line with the 500/1. I leave the 450/4 out of the loop since the current draw will not spike with large bass hits. It is not recommended to put the cap close to the distribution block. Keep it as close to the amps as possible. I have about an eight inch 8-gauge wire running from the cap terminal to the amplifier power input.

500x1 is going ot be running a 10w7
100x1 is going to be running 2 10w7.
i know it is completely overkill, but i either wanted to take it down to only 2 subs or have 3 running happily (with them only getting 333watts each like they do now, sometimes they "pop" b/c the amps cant push out enough power). I decided to stick with 3 subs b/c i like the look alot better and have already invested $$$ so buying one more amp really doesnt bother me that much.

Overkill is an understatement!!! I have two 10W7-3s on a JL Audio 1000/1 and it is nothing short of painful at high volumes. Not to mention that the car is literally shaking itself loose when played like that. When I hit a solid 35-40 Hz note, my back window looks like its about to come out of the hatch. Of course my 10W7-3s are in vented enclosures tunes at the JL spec 32 Hz.

You should use the cap as a distribution block and make the power leads to the sub amps as short as possible. If you have a canister type cap you can stack the power leads on top of each other, pretty sure you can fit 3 terminals on one even with the battery terminal. The Alumapro ones are even easier since they screw down like most amps do but you have to rig up a relay.
