Default ZR-3 OWNERS: Ever been pulled over?

Those of you with the ZR-3 laser shifter, the cop that tries to clock you will not get a reading of how fast you are going, correct? What i'm wondering is, if they have pulled you over, have they ever asked you why they couldn't get a reading? If so, what did you tell the officer?

Just in case i decide to buy one, I want to know what to say and not give him a "uh, it's because i have a laser jammer installed in my car" answer.

Ummm, think about your question for a minute....

1. Why are they gonna pull you over if they can't tell how fast you were going????

2. Laser Jammers are legal..

Maybe they'll pull you over because they can't get a reading and are being suspicious (read: A55HOLES)?
Or maybe they tried to pull you over for speeding and since they couldn't get a reading they find some other sh!tty excuse to pull you over?

I don't know, just possibilities.

I was talking to a cop in Clearwater, and he said that if certified, they can give you a ticket based on the speed they estimate you were doing, although I think that should be pretty easy to get thrown out in court with a traffic lawyer. Even if they were to pull you over, and saw the modules in the front grill, there isn't anything they can do, since it is legal. It's like them pulling you over and finding a radar detector in the car--legal. From what I've heard from other users, once you get an alarm showing that you were hit, you can quickly slow down and switch the unit off-that way they will get your speed on the second reading-but you will be within the limit by then. They will think the non-read was a faulty reading since they got a reading the second shot.
I don't know from experience, as I don't have mine installed yet.

Never been pulled over. Got a bunch of laughs seeing their reactions though.

I carry a pocket tape recorder, so if they ever do pull me over, I can insist on them proving it and record their reply.

I'm couious if you ask to see the reading if they must show it to you ??

The ZR3 got great reviews on RadarTest.com, but then again...doesn't Escort/Passport own and operate that website? I have a feeling that some of the hype is just that -- hype.

Personally I bought the BEL904 jammers which seem to do just about as well as RadarTest claims the ZR3 shifters work.

I have heard about radartest.com being owned or ran by escort/passport, and if you check out the site. All of escorts products are rated higher than others in pretty much all of the test.

Here's a good review site for the 904:
http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/bel904.htm
Lots of other interesting topics:

I haven't run into laser myself out here or I'd probably invest in one.

Do you HAVE to combine it with the Escort/Pasport brand detectors or can you also have a Valentine One?

Wouldn't the jammer cause your laser detector to constantly go off?

As to the cop issue, trust me. If they knew you had a jammer, they will ticket you for whatever they can think of.

I remember when I was just 17. I had one of the first radar detectors made (the Fuzz Buster) an antiquated clunky thing that sat on your dash. A state trooper had a "traffic safety" stop set up where they pull EVERYONE over to check them out and when they saw my Fuzz Buster, this is how the conversation went:

Officer: What is that thing up on your dash son?

Me: It's a radar detector sir.

Officer: No it isn't. You know what it is?

Me: Uh, no. What is it then.

Officer: It's a windshield obstruction. (as he hands me my ticket for $15.00)...Have a nice day.

I have the SRX. I have two friends (neighbors) that are policemen. We tested the unit. They swore my unit would not work.

It does work....but it depending on the approach angle. This only makes sense. If your shifter/jammer doesn't aim it's response signal exactly right, you are toast. For slight angles, it worked great. We did not test the rear sensor....only the two fronts.

The SRX is so small (I've attached it ABOVE the rear view mirror) and it comes with a remote speaker and an optional LED, that it is almost totally stealth.

The protection that it provides you is better than none at all.

It can integrate with an 8500, but only optional. It can be used with a V1. The unit is quite stealth...the front sensors are around 3" x 4" x 3/4" and sit nicely in the grill. The control unit goes under the dash, and the display (on/off) is around 1.5" x 3" x 3/4" so it can mount above the rear view mirror. A cop would have to look for it to find it. After you get hit once, slow down and switch it off--second reading will be good and cop will think he got a bad reading.

But doesn't it make your laser detector (on your V-1 say) go off?

They only transmit when they start receiving a laser signal, so no, it should not cause your detector to go off when it shouldn't already be

Just so you know, in Ohio if you ask to see the reading, they must show it to you. In addition, you can ask them to show you that the radar detector is properly tuned. This is done by stricking a tuning fork (no joke) and holding it in front of the radar gun. When "shot", the gun will read a very specific speed (the moving speed of the fork). Of course, the cop tells you the speed of the fork before hand and then sure enough, it pops up on the display. Now keep in mind, the last time I tested this was 12 years ago.

I got nailed when I was 16 and I was a punk kid. I requested proof of my speed and he did the above and then ticketed me for about three different things. Don't ask to see the reading. Cops hate to be asked if they are lying. Frankly, be nice and try to get out of it. If that doesn't work, go to court.
