Whats the best head unit for $300-$400??
I just installed the alpine CDA-9820XM. Its got built in XM radio reciever in addition to two sets of RCA inputs and a CD changer input. I'd post pics, but Alpines all look alike so Im not sure what the point would be.
It sounds GREAT tho!

tractng, please don't buy that Metra kit. That thing is U-G-L-Y! Do yourself a favor and buy the American International kit (NDK740). I bought the Metra kit and HATED the way it fit. I'm so much happier with this kit, there are no words. Sorry to thread hijack! By the way, gotta toss my hat in on the 7998, or really anything Alpine. I used to be an installer. In all my time slapping in stereo's, I had fewer complaints from people that bought Alpine than anything else we carried. They build a high quality product and for that price range, you should get a great component. Good luck!

Do you need to intall this? Going to the distribution block?
"V-Drive hybrid MOSFET60 internal amp — high-current draw requires direct fused connection to your battery "
I am assuming its a detachable face. Also whats the bit for CD decoder?
Thanks,

Guys,
Does it really make a difference if the Alpine 9833 is not a 24-bit D/A converter?
I listen to CD a lot. Any response?

A 24-bit compared to a 1-bit is a huge difference, to me. Not sure if you will be able to tell the difference though. If you're able to, check a local stereo shop and listen. If you can find a HU that has a 24-bit Burr Brown DAC, that is about as good as they come.
Think about it this way Ex. a 1-bit DAC will sample a sound at 1x per second. A 24-bit will sample it 24x per second. Not exactly how it works but you get the idea.
Alpine:
9833=bass engine pro, all the control one could ever need, digital time correction...
9835=what the 9833 has but a better screen, you pay 100 bucks more for a better screen.
9831=bass engine not pro, again plenty of control but the screen is the same as that of the 9833
the 9833 is the best deal out there I think. I should know, I might as well sell the damn things
