Default Using HU amp to power front speakers

I asked this question, in someone else post, but I figured it is better to ask in a new post

I have the Kenwood 7015 HU, which has 50w x 4
What is the best way to use this power to run the Infinity perfect 6.1 ?
(I will not be adding an amp for awhile)

Can I get 50w to the mids and 50w to the tweeters ?

Or looking at the Install Instructions , it looks like it just has one input for the woofer and tweeter on the crossover.
Can I convert my Kenwoods HU from 50w x 4 to 100w x 2 ?
If so how ?

Thanks!

Hi ACP,

I don't pretend to know that head-unit, but from my experience with LOADS of other Kenwood head-units, converting from 50x4 to 100x2 cannot be done. My advice would be to buy a seperate amp. About all those built-in amps are good for is MAYBE powering rear speakers. Those Infiniti's you've got would be much happier with a good dose of power. The other thing worthy to note is that the head-unit's power output, according to Kenwood's web site, is 50 x 4 MAX power, not RMS wattage. Big difference. Reading the Infiniti's spec's you've attached, they want 35x2 RMS watts. That head-unit's really rated to 15 or 20x4 RMS, IMHO. Again, if it were my system, don't even bother with the built-in amp and go for a seperate amp. Buy yourself a Phoenex Gold or something of similar quality and you'll be much happier. In the mean time, of course you could run your system with the built-in. Trying to divert 50 watts to the mid and 50 to the tweet will require building custom crossovers for each component. Can be done, but costs more $$$. Personally, I'd just suffer through it until you've got the cash to buy a seperate amp. Good luck with it either way!

I agree with motown, i tried to power some mb quartz off of the HU and it sounded like crap. Get an amp, if you really don't want one it will work, just wont sound that good because there isn't enough power to push the woofer, you get an over kill of highs.
