Default Questions about IPOD and itunes for experienced users

I just got my 40GB 4th Generation ipod. I have about 180 CD's and what room to load about 300 CD's onto my ipod. Here are my questions (yes I did a search but hope you guys can help me in addition):

1. What is the kbps rate I should load my CD's onto itunes and ipod to make sure I can load 300 CD's and have as good quality as possible? I believe the default in itunes is 128kbps.

2. If I load my CD's onto my itunes/ipod, can I later change the kbps to a different rate to accomadate more CD's? IE, lets say I import them at 256kbps and later need room, can I reduce them to 128 kbps to make more room in ipod hard drive.

3. Any other suggestions you have whould be helpful. I plan on importing my 180+ CD's onto itunes and ipod in the next week or two.

Thanks....Jeff

1. The standard setting should be fine I have a 30GB with over 300 full albums and a bunch of singles, etc, total 3935 songs(608 artest 577 albums) and still have about 9GBs left.

2. No, Not without ripping them from CD again at a different setting. That would be a pain.

3. If there are songs on an album that you don't listen to or like don't rip them. Other then that find something to occupy yourself while the CDs are importing.

I have burned 21 CD's thus far in two days. I have used 1.33 GB of space when copying on AAC format @ 192KPBS.

I read on the ipod site that 192KPBS is the min. to get decent sound. What is decent for one person might not be for the next. At this rate, I will have the capacity to copy approx. 600 CD's onto my 40GB ipod.
