Default AVIC-N1 GPS mount problem

Here's the deal. They originally put my GPS antenna on my strut bar. I didn't like it there, so they moved it in front of my center console. Now my center console will not snap back into place because of the GPS wire.

Anyone else have their GPS here. If so, how did you get the console to snap back into place.

Its annoying as hell, especially when I open my center console holder and the whole thing wiggles. Frustrating as hell.

Where do you guys have your GPS mounted?

Am I the victim of another teenage install????????

And now since installing my AVIC-N1, I have engine noise, WTF?

Someone help, thanks!

What was wrong with the strut bar. I got advice from another member to put it beneath the strut bar cover--so I did. You can't even see it.

I think I will have them move it to the strut bar. I really wanted it where it is, but if the console won't shut, then I am moving it.

I thought the GPS had to be facing up and placed where it can view the outside?

That's what it says in the manual...when placed on the strutbar, it is below the rear glass, so it has the same "view" as where you have it, below glass. I haven't had any problems with it picking up signal, the strut cover is very thin. Completely hidden, all wires are behind the trim

if you want to have it there you need to run the wire through the vents in the picture.. its a bit time consuming but fairly easy to take off the entire dash panel to get the wire through, follow the service manual.. pushing the center console could cut the wire since there is no gap for a wire to fit through.

just take a dremel and cut a tiny notch on the top of the console so the wire can go through without being in the way..

Mine is mounted on the roof..

Well, I drove to the stereo shop to get the noise fixed and the antenna remounted. Drove all the way there for the manager to tell me, the Nav installer is sick today. Thanks for calling me, ***.

Another appt tomorrow.

Hey zand02max, mine is sorta in the same spot, but under the plastic. Just have them put the whole antenna under the console, there's plenty of room there. As far as the engine noise, have them re-check the ground and the wire-routing.

The manager said the antenna has to be in line sight with the outside, in other words, it has to see through a window.

I take it, you have no signal problems?

Thats what I thought, thanks all for the posts. I will have the installer hide the antenna under the console.

Now on to the noise issue.
