anyone here using 2 8 inch w7... i am making a box to put it behind both the passenger and driver's seats... how is the sound quality? what kind of amplifier do u guys recommend?

 

anyone that can push what they require. An Xtant 6.1 would be a good choice. Maybe even a 1000 watt amp.

 

u think one JL 500/1 can power 2 JL 8w7... i was gonna go with one 10 inch w7, but there wasn't enough room behind my seats... and i made a box for two 8" w7s instead!!!

 

iirc, the 8w7 like to see 400rms to each. so 500 to both would be a little underpowered, but should still hit pretty good.

 

I'm using one jlaudio 8w7 behind my driver's seat and powering it off a 500/5. The sub channel on that amp specs at 250 watts. The specified sweet spot for those 8w7s is specs at 250-300 watts and jl actually recommends at 250/1 to power 1 8w7 sub.

Considering all that plus the fact that the jl amps are spec'd low, a 500/1 should do just fine.

BTW the sound is very good. The thing I like about those 8w7's is that they have really crisp response. Once you get those bad boys in, pound on 'em a bit and watch how much that cone displaces - pretty sweet.

 

just check out jlaudio, it's 300 rms. thought it was 400 like their w6v2 line, oh well. the 500/1 will work. i'm just not a big fan of jl's amps. if you're buying off of ebay, for $50 more you can get an Xtant 6.1 which will be perfect.

stu46 - What don't you like about the JL amps. Why do you prefer the Xtant over them?

 

it's not that i don't like them. their good amps. Xtant is a better amp. kinda like comparing audi to vw.

$300 for JL 500/1
$350 for Xtant 6.1

for $50 you get 100 watts rms. it doesn't make sense to go with the JL unless you don't have the $50.

i don't sell them nor do i work for any stereo shop. i just know from what i've heard. side by side, xtant amps sound better. the extra 100 watts is a big help also.
