Default Installing my eD 15A sub (with pics)...

My original goal for this project was to have the sub mounted flush with the floor. This was not possible unless we (my brother and I) elevated the whole floor of the trunk, but this would have added a few days onto this project, which I did not have. We toyed with the idea of building a box inside of the strut tower brace (the sub would fire toward the rear of the car and be mounted vertical), but thought this would add more problems significantly prolonging this project. I feared I may have problems with rattling and getting it to fit properly given the sub’s enormous size. We decided to go with the design you see here….

Here is the finished product...notice the custom speaker grill

The box is approximately 8 inches deep.

We made this board under the carpet to replace the factory plastic one since it could no longer be used.

With the amp mounted behind the sub....

I stilll plan on cleaning up the wiring a little later on but we we rushing to get this all done in one day as it was.

I also originally wanted the amp to be flush to the floor with a screen over it, but it was not possible given the limited space behind the sub. I decided just to have it mounted stealth instead.

I am very happy with the results. It sounds as loud if not louder than my ported box that I had in my old car! I think the reason for this is the sub actually sits in the passenger cabin and is not separated from the passengers as it was in Spec V. I love having a sub and actually being able to FEEL the bass again

I used to own an e10a in my old car. Great subs, although ed is really having issues off late.

I toyed with the idea of my re 15" xxx, but 70 lbs for just the sub was just too much weight. Glad your results came out favorable.

Hey stu...sounds fantastic really. It is kind of overkill really for this car. With bass testing tracks I cant even sit in the car and listen with the stereo turned up, it will rattle your eardrums too much. Great SPL and sound quality.

GQ350 - Issues of late? hell they have been having issues for a while. They really do make some nice subs but their seriously lacking in customer service. They have made many hefty promises that they have not been able to live up to, especially with pre orders. I had to send two 15A's back because of warrantee issues. The one I have now I had to wait 6 months for when I was promised it would be no more than 8 weeks.

I had an e10o in my last car. Great musical sub with high output. How much airspace in that box? It seems a bit on the small side to me.

I calculated around 1.7 cubic feet (I cant remember exactly since it was a few weeks ago). It is actually a little bigger than the manufacture suggested size simply because I had to take into account the spare tire hump. It is not as deep but it is a little longer. I am kind of **** when it comes to stuff like that.

MIAPLAYA - haha...I have to pay for a wedding next year or that woould be on my "to do list". I want to get an exaust on it soon though - probably next summer. Its starting to get cold here now an its almost time to put her away for the winter.

The a series was created to work in small spaces. Probably 1 cu. ft and you should be good to go =)
