Default What is the best Alarm System?

Sorry if it sounds like a dumb newbie question...but I am alarm illiterate. I want the best alarm on the market (within reason), and something that will also remotely start my car.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

A search turned up nothing....

I have the Clifford Avantguard 5: IMO the flagship unit available.

clifford used to be very popular in the 90's, but I havent seen or heard much about them in most car stereo shops. How are they doing these days?

I've used the Viper's all my life with no failures but I'd suggest something with a pager!

I was checking out www.clifford.com and they have clearly made some advances in the past decade.

The RS 3.5 looks increadible.

From a fellow GQ,

I would not recommend the RS3.5--althought it is a great looking unit (I have it on my Navigator) it has low range, and worse the battery in the remote needs to be replaced every month or so because of the constant paging (mine is even on low sensitivity!) .

I actually have the Clifford Avantguard 5, which is the flagship model from them. It has all the sensors you could possibly need for a car like ours--for instance tilt sensor: if someone tries to jack up your car it will go off (ie trying to steal your rims). Further it has an omni sensor, which is the smart sensor--it learns about your surrounding and adjusts accordingly to avoid false alarms etc (on my car it is set all over the car--so if it gets tapped/shocked it goes off). It also has motion sensors, inside/out, not to mention a blue led inside . Also, a big worry for people is the car thieves just simply clip the siren wiring--go ahead and try on the Avantguard--you can clip the wiring but it has a backup (self powerd) siren that will keep going off no matter what. I would give my full recommendation for it.

I have mine with remote start as well on a 6mt--it comes with an intelli-start module. Just make sure you have an experienced installer do this for you--I am pretty install savvy and I would not even attempt this by myself.

Clifford is the parent company of Viper and is actually owned by Directed Electronics. Any of their alarms are great, but if you want the best, trust me--you want the Avantguard. Sorry for my long response but you said insightful =)

Thanks!
ravi

GQ...first..thanks for the detailed repsonse. I will do some more research on the Avant Guard. The problem is I dont have a Clifford dealer here in Charlotte. Viper is everywhere, and they seems to be decent units.

Second...is that your house in the background of your sig??? nice!!

Third, I was a big fan of the 1/4 paging option. Are you saying it didnt find it a valuable feature? Cant the sensitivity just be adjusted to avoid the constant paging?
