Default Sealed box

Guys,

I have asked this question before but never got a definte answer. When the manufacturer suggest the sealed box size, does that exclude the woofer?

Reason is that i want to build a box that fit nicely into the stock location.

The airspace required is what you have left when you subtract volume of the sub from the total airspace of the enclosure.

Tony,

I wouldn't worry too much, because in most cases subwoofer volume is negligible--like .16 cu ft, etc. For sealed applications just go as close to the manufacturer specs and call it a day.

Best of luck!

JL audio does calculation of what the box would be with the Sub in it.

So basically if they recommend 0.5-1.0 and you have 0.5 before you put the sub in then you won't have enough.

But never fear, polyfill is here!!!!!

gundam02,

You mean with most other brands regarding this quote, but not JL.

So basically if they recommend 0.5-1.0 and you have 0.5 before you put the sub in then you won't have enough.

Btw, I love your box. I want something like yours, but i am just too afraid of breakin.

What is your opinion of a JL 10w6v2 in a stock location? I meaured today and it looks like i can fit a seal box in there with this sub in it. It will fire upward. I will use mostly use mdf except for the base (fiberglass) to save some room.

Right now i have an infinity perfect 10.1d sub in a sealed box in there. Just want a little more punch.

Guys ... do not ignore the volume of the subwoofer. Think about it. A 1.0 ft^3 enclosure is now made into a 0.85 ft^3 enclosure with the driver displacement. Polyfill is not a band-aid to make up for lost space, rather it should be used to tame the box in the end.

download some simulators, input your parameters and try a 0.85 and 1.0 ft^3 box .... see the differences ... they are not negligible.
