Default need advice on audio upgrade

I've done a lot of searching and most systems would break my budget.

Seriously, how much should i set aside to buy a system where i can feel good clean bass, nice sounding mid, and not ear deafening shrieking treble.

I really don't want to spend much but it seems like most people don't spend anything less than a couple grand. i'm thinking about $600 or so...or is that impossible to do.

thanks

If you have a system installed it will be around $1500. If you do it yourself, about $1100............take off another couple hundred if you buy on eBay.

Here is what I bought:

$600 is going to be tough unless you install yourself and buy mostly used equipment off eBay.

For speakers in your price range, I would highly recommend going with these CDTs:

Sometimes you can find the better CDT models on eBay really cheap because most people don't know them like Infinity, JL, etc.

Tweeters are very smooth and hot harsh at all. They get great reviews on alot of the car audio forums.

Default Thanks

Thank you guys for your quick responses and advice. Looks as if i'm gonna save some money to get it done right the first time.

Anybody know of a good audio shop in illinois that i can go and get the install done?

'brickyard rat' nice set up...i've heard only good things about eclipse...is the new subwoofer unbearable behind your seat?

No, its okay for about 95% of the music I listen too. On a few songs the base gets distorted. If I had it to do over again, I'd still put it in the same location because I don't want to lose space in the hatch area....or spend the $$$ for a custom enclosure.

On finding a shop, and asuming you don't get a recommendation from someone, just go the yellow pages & look up custom stero shops and visit them. I must have hit at least 5 before I settled on one. Once you find one that seems right get their recommendations and post them here for feedback.

The Eclipse is great but I've seen several other good ones mentioned here.
